Adrian Peterson to sign with Saints

Adrian Peterson tells ESPN's Josina Anderson Tuesday morning that he plans to sign with New Orleans Saints on a two-year deal that is effectively a 1-year deal plus a 1-year option.

Peterson told Anderson that the deal is worth a base total value of $7 million. Here are the terms Peterson says he has agreed to at this point. The 2017 compensation is $3.5 million (all guaranteed at signing), which includes a $1 million guaranteed salary in 2017 and a $2.5 million signing bonus.

The maximum incentives packages is $8.25 million and whatever incentives reached in 2017 gets added to the per game roster bonuses in 2018.
The 2018 compensation is $3.5 million (none of which is guaranteed). {It includes $2.4 million in total roster bonuses, (which includes a $750K roster bonus earned on third day of free agency plus $1.65 million in per game roster bonuses), $1.05 million salary and a $50K workout bonus}.

"I am excited to be joining the New Orleans Saints," Peterson told Anderson. "I'm really looking forward to this opportunity. Most importantly, I chose this team because it just felt right within my spirit. Additionally, my wife and family added their confirmation with the same feelings.

"On offense, it goes without saying that the Saints are really solid behind Drew Brees. I feel like my skill set can make them even more dominant as a unit. They have a great offensive line, which is something that stood out to me as well. I could tell from talking to head coach Sean Payton over the last two weeks that he did his due diligence in evaluating how I could contribute. I also did a lot of homework on the defense as well. While I know that injuries have played a role in performance, I also see areas of potential with a lot of younger guys having the ability to step up. Lastly, it goes without saying that the Saints have an amazing fan base and I look forward to making them proud and creating everlasting memories."

Hightower has been replaced

Christian McCaffrey still on the board?
Would be a killer RB rotation.

Back up RT?
who is left on the board at 32? day3 and/or UDFA

Dull threat TE?
R3 - George Kittle TE Iowa 6036 250 4.53 #46 rSr

Malcolm Butler deal is now dead?
I do not see how the saints can pull it off without one if those funky contracts

It appears the saints want to reestablish the running game. Larry Warford signing looks better today than yesterday.

I think this is something we do each year before the draft, we sure up positions or at least give that impression. I think we will select the best talent available no matter offensive or defensive when we pick. Wouldn't be surprised to see us take anyone, and Mixon in the 2nd or 3rd might be a go. This is effectively a 1 year deal, which really works in our best interest since if he wants to earn a second year or another contract somewhere else he has to go all out. I think that with our recent guard addition the oline is looking pretty good. I could definitely see us running the ball nice. Good way to protect your d too. Might go after a RT in first 2 rounds. A good oline and run game helps the d quite a bit.

The bastards are doing it to me again, I am starting to get sucked in...

I love Mixon but will the saints buck tradition about problem players in the draft? then again we are signing AP so maybe.

Mixon in the second and two years left on Ingrams contract makes sense. Test the water and see if Mixon is the back of the future for two years then make up your mind if Ingram contract should be extended.

I am not expecting AP to do more than Hightower did.

Ingram AP Mixon would be a heck of a rotation

If the Saints for any reason decide to still draft a RB, which is entirely possible, I personally kind of like the idea of drafting Curtis Samuel, because it's truly a toss up as to whether he is a RB or a slot receiver. Given the Saints' love for using RB's in the slot, he might be a real weapon in that role. It's worked before, though Spiller was obviously a bust.

Considering Samuel is from Ohio State, I half EXPECT them to draft him. We shall see. Not in the first round, though.

#1 question for me is this

Does AP work in a zone blocking scheme?

Anyone know?

Yawn. When's the draft?

32 yo RB with knee issues. Really?

Draft all D. After that we may get out of bed.

Maybe... it's probably really just a one deal disguised as a two year deal. SP will use him differently than in Minnihaha. He is taller than Ingram, is he not?

Exactly right each in every year... they fill the positions with what they can via FA and then draft on BPA. They come in and fight for their jobs.

I like this move.
