Thoughts on our WR corp

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; If Newton can make him look decent Brees will get him a little further. Still would have loved to see Pryor but the price was too high....

I'd like us to take a look at Dorial Green-Beckham who just got released by the Eagles. His size speed combination is intriguing and he haven't really played with any QBs worth mentioning with the Titans and Eagles.

I've read DGB has bad practice habits, lacking in effort and runs poor routes. Two teams have already given up on this guy...makes you wonder if there are character concerns the general public doesn't know about.

Re: Thoughts on our WR corp

Drew Brees Best Statistical Regular Season was in 2011 when he completed 71.2% of his passes for 5476 PaYds with 46 PaTD and 14 INT...

His three wide receivers that season were Marques Colston, Lance Moore, and Devery Henderson...

Brees' wide receivers this season will be Michael Thomas, Willie Snead the IV, Ted Ginn...

A younger, healthier Thomas compares well to Colston; Snead the IV would be an upgrade over Moore; and Ginn as well over Henderson...

Oh, and the other two receivers in 2011 were Robert Meachem, Courtney Roby; we'll be going to camp choosing at least two from -

Brandon Coleman, Jake Lampman, Corey Fuller, Travin Duval, Jordan Williams, Tommy Lewis, and Justin Thomas - all are better receivers than Meach and Roby...

Oh, sticking with my coaching theme this off-season, 2011 was the last season we had WR Coach Curtis Johnson before he left to be HC at Tulane...

So don't be surprised if Brandon Coleman's game, or any of the others in the 2017 WR pool become standouts as well this year...

We've got that player already in Brandon Coleman, only without all the drama baggage, dope, and active enabling parents - No F*cking Thank You...

Re: Thoughts on our WR corp

I've been looking at Coleman and it is just painful.
I've been pulling for him and hoping he cuts some teeth, but DAYUM!
Praying that he's a late bloomer against all I've seen so far.
He can't get separation and he STILL has trouble in traffic. His best days are in zones.
The game just has not slowed down yet for him. At this level you have to be good in the moments.
He's still around because no one else has stepped up to fill the void.
I'm hoping someone can focus enough to be excellent during the 5-6 targets per game
that are available for that spot.
Our 3 & 4 spots are wide open. I'm just hoping for the best.

I've lost count how many times he's dropped passes after absorbing a little contact.

It happened in the NY game when he had a chance to make a big catch and get us in the redzone.

He had an awful training camp and preseason, yet Payton gives him an automatic spot, just like Cadet.

Re: Thoughts on our WR corp

As I said, let's see what Curtis Johnson can do with Coleman et al through at least one training camp...

Coach Curtis is considered one of the league's best at coaching receivers; then judge the range of improvement...

The expectations from a UDFA have become a bit much. BC is young, cheap and has shown improvement every year. The guy is a solid #4 WR.

Considering we just don't throw to WRs in this offense but we utilize the TE and FB probably more than anyone in the league...

Then there's the RBs and Ingram was among the league leaders and Kamara should adequately replace the Jack RB that Reggie/Sproles filled...

According to PFF, Coleman caught 68% of his passes, up from 61% his rookie year...

Also, consider this - there's the salary cap and we just traded Brandin Cooks because we can't afford to keep three X receivers...

Even Snead knows his role and his earnings ceiling...
