Thoughts on our WR corp
With the loss of Brandin Cooks, I, personally, was hoping to get a WR around the 3rd round or so to fill that void. Someone who produced at the college level and could come in and contribute immediately. After Michael Thomas and WIllie Snead, our receivers are very lackluster. Brandon Coleman is still inconsistent and never maximizes his size and height advantage. Ted Ginn is known for dropping passes and inconsistency. Now, we all know Drew makes receivers better, but Coleman is still Coleman and that isn't going to change. At TE, Fleener was inconsistent also, and our other TEs are backups. Hopefully the running game being improved, with a stronger offensive line, can open up more for less talented receivers like Coleman and Ginn, but, overall, I feel our WR corp has regressed, as a whole, this offseason. What are your thoughts?

Re: Thoughts on our WR corp
While I agree that the WR group isn't as talented with the loss of Cooks, I also believe the offense will be just as good. I expect to see a lot more play action type throws than we've seen in the last couple seasons. I think that's the heart of it all.
That said, Michael Thomas and Willie Snead provide a very good 1-2 punch. Coleman and some other receivers that have been buried on the depth chart will get a chance to show what they've got. Sean Payton likes his toys. Everyone knows that. He's an offensive minded coach and enjoys deploying his high powered offensive aerial attack. There's no way he traded Cooks without having a plan in place or an idea of who is going to step up next. He's done it for years. The offense will still be firing on all cylinders. |

Re: Thoughts on our WR corp
We have two strong WR's. A lot of teams don't even have one. Thomas was also a rookie. Somebody else will emerge in PS. Maybe Travin Dural or one of the others we stashed. Ginn is likely not going to help that much but you never know.

He's also dangerous on special teams (kick off/punt returns). |

Re: Thoughts on our WR corp
Another thing to think about - I think our offensive line is going to be one of the best in the league this year. We've got two new stud players with Warford and Ramczyk, and we'll also get back a healthy Armstead. What that means is that Brees will have more time in the pocket and not have to rush his throws as much as he's had to in the past two years. This will help our receivers tremendously.
