Back to the Past....Just Briefly!

I know we are past the draft and many of us are or at least some of us are content with our draft picks...that's all right with me to each his own, OK Cool. But, I cant help but think we REALLY missed on some FUTURE DL this year. Only time will tell, but history show the guys we actually drafted at the DL positions won't be around for long. This was a Very Nice DL class. I'm hoping one of the picks become at least 5+ Sack guy assuming they wont be the "everydown" starter just yet. Im hoping that Im proved wrong. Because that guy from Michigan was there and multiple others and we passed for "projects". IJS Saints did what the Saints do settle in regards to drafting that is.

Re: Back to the Past....Just Briefly!

We got a steal at 11, a steal at 32. Probably one of the closest Sharper clones at 42.

Was Kamara with it? Time will tell.

Anzalone? Could be a monster LB for us. Worth the investment at 76.

I don't know why people aren't happy.

Yea Im not questioning the Marshon Lattimore selection Morse so the Kamara Pick Anzalone Pick n those 2 DL we got because everyone took good pieces(DL)(LB) and we waited and was left with the scraps.

We did wind up getting major value for our picks. It's over now so we can only look forward. Most people hated the Michael Thomas pick last year but aren't complaining now.

Right but you have to look back to make sure you dont make the same mistakes goong forward. And the Saints put defense on the backburner in my eyes. I didnt see too many people complaining about the Mike Thomas pick. And I wouldnt compare Mikes expectations to that of Anzalones so to speak.

Rell, not seeing how we put defense on the back burner in this draft...

Saints took Lattimore with the first pick, two of the first three picks were defense, and five our of our total seven picks were defense...

I'd been banging the table for Hendrickson right where we took him, though I'd admit I thought we'd take a DE sooner...

But when you look at our haul on paper, we addressed every need we had on defense CB, DE and FS - And don't forget about the coaching upgrades as well...

Plus, you've got to factor last year's draft of two defensive linemen (Rankins, Onyemata) and SS Vonn Bell as welll - three of the five picks last year...

If it's the Ramczyk pick people choose to criticize, then consider this:

(1) Zach Strief was just paid a cool add'l mil to come back for his 12th season, so we're getting close...

(2) We've had an injured LT the past two seasons and guess what we've got going into this season?

(3) Yes, Ryan had a hip strain (now healed going into training camp) but he was rated at least a Top 20 pick by many teams and we got him at 32...

(4) We've now got a guy who will probably be with us for a ten+ year career, again with a No. 32 investment...

It should be obvious from my posts here in our online community that I love building through the draft, would love a ten round draft and for us to acquire picks...

..., but the last two years show significant hauls, even though I hated the two-for-one trading...

Exactly. I think we got excellent value for our picks and let's see what Hendrickson brings us. I have read comparisons to JJ Watt, Shaq Lawson, Rob Ninkovich, etc.

Who in their right mind is comparing Hendrickson to Watt? They dont even play the same position different size what is there to compare? Rob Ninkovich sounds like a realistic comparison but out of those three thats where I would stop.

To gain one, you lose another. That's just the way it goes. I'll put my faith for now in the new folk who actually did the selections. All draft choices are crap shoots and we always have to keep in mind who we already have on the team.

It's stretching it a bit to say the guys we picked aren't going to be around for long while the guys we didn't pick will be...
