I see what you mean now. But I LOVE preaseason. Its like being a kid on
december 23rd. You do know there used to be SIX preseason games?

I've suggested this before, but here's my idea about preseason, and its brilliant.

Play the preseason games in secondary cities, like we did in Shreveport and Jackson. The season tix holders dont have to pay for preseason games. I went to the last Shreveport game, it they treated it like a Super Bowl there, with a complete carnival all around it, and tons of hype.
It was crazy and fun, and brought a lot of $$$ into town. It wasnt meaningless to those people. The Saints had come to their town. The team leaves with stronger fans, much like the old NFL barnstorming tours of the 30s.

You need preseason, and all the Pierre Thomas's of football, the undrafted guys, the rehab guys, the waiver wire, practice squad guys-- would all tell you THEY need it. And the brilliant coaches who pick Marques Colston in the 7th round will too. And a whole lot of secondary cities, like San Antonio, Milwaukee, Jackson, etc. would jump at the chance to host an NFL preseason game. The teams grow a deeper bond w/ their distant fans. everybody wins.
If you like preseason, I'm not going to tell you what you should or shouldn't be interested in. I know that other people watch preseason, too. That, in my opinion, does not give it any more meaning. I'll repeat what I said previously, and that is that without these games the players would simply be judged by practices and scrimmages/joint practices. The guys like Pierre Thomas, Lance Moore, Marques Colston and Chris Ivory would still get their opportunities to shine. I don't see the "need" for them to have preseason games. And yes, I am aware it used to be six games.

I love football, but not when it's vanilla and the outcome is meaningless. It just leads to more injuries. But we all get bored waiting for the season to start, so when the games come on, we tune in (not as much for me) to see certain players play. If there had never been a preseason, no one would have cared. Because you have it, you're used to it, so you watch it. That's fine. But that doesn't do anything to say that the games SHOULD be played, in my opinion.

When I was just starting to watch football as a kid, I liked to watch preseason, because I went the whole off season with nothing to keep up with anything to do with football. We didn't have a computer, or cable, or satellite. When the season ended the off season was a long brutal wait. Now though, we are inundated with information and video. That, along with just being older and understanding what the preseason is really all about has taken away most of my interest for it.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

That said though, Mike, the one thing preseason does is it gives the average fan who doesn't go to all the practices an opportunity to get a general idea of certain players. I was majorly encouraged by the defense, in what I did watch the other night. Just don't think it's necessary to have the games. At the very least, cut it to two games.

Both names are becoming our version of Voldemort. Kinda like former Saint DC or former Saint LB Coach "He-who-must-not-be-named".

Not true. In fantasy, if I use my +4 vorpal sword on someone, it's all good. Reality means I am writing this from a jail cell...
