Re: SUH coming to New Orleans!?!?!
If this is true, he can enjoy his life and let's just go grab Okafor back....

Yeah that's the 'absurd' number i was talking about somewhere else. I'd like him here and don't mind paying the man, but that's more than just a bit too much.

Re: SUH coming to New Orleans!?!?!
Truly I would have been happy with a healthy Okafor from the get-go. He is shopping himself, but the dude was a beast when he was healthy. We were destroying teams up front with him. To hell with $20 mill, whatever. 10 mill, maybe....

Donkey Kong did kinda throw it out there that he is going to the highest suitor. Getting top dollar is more important than winning it appears.
It won't be the Saints. |

Re: SUH coming to New Orleans!?!?!
If the numbers were not doable the visit would never be happening. Payton will feel him out to assure he would fit the dynamics of the team. As much as he has been stressing that I would be shocked if he suddenly ignored it in this case. Suh has always had the reputation as a soft spoken, insightful person off the field, while over the first half of his career he had a tendency to be too intense on the field and that is what got him into trouble.

Re: SUH coming to New Orleans!?!?!
Saints will be his first official visit.
As further evidence the #Cowboys are out of the running for DT Ndamukong Suh, I’ve confirmed Suh will be in New Orleans Friday for a visit. Per source informed, “the visit will be important for both sides to make sure it’s a good fit” — Jane Slater (@SlaterNFL) March 15, 2018 |
re: Ndamukong Suh Thread (MERGED)
I have no concerns with Suh's abilities. If the Front Office is comfortable with him I think this would be a great signing. Suh's reputation precedes him, so I have every confidence Mickey et al will ask the right questions and have the right clauses in any potential contract offer. We have an experienced management team, so my confidence is in them right now. Suh at his best would put us over the top....JMHO.

re: Ndamukong Suh Thread (MERGED)
Ok so Suh had a 6 year $114 million dollar deal in place with Miami.
when he joined them in 2015. His base salary this year (2018) would have been $17 million, and of his contract $60 million was guaranteed. This guy got paid. His performance has declined and $17 mil is way too much. I think Suh would sign for 10 mil a year for 2 years or close. |
Re: SUH coming to New Orleans!?!?!
We just got a 3 mill refund on Fairley so that adds to our cap space. I say stick with the receivers we have and sign Suh. He will be a very big add for our team and disrupt from the inside. I am really getting excited now. DE, LT and WR in the draft!

If the Price is Right! Come on down.
Not a real big fan of Suh, but I wasn't a big fan of Fairley and he turned out to be a nice pickup |

Compare numbers
Suh Ndamukong Suh, DT for the Miami Dolphins at NFL.com VS. Okafor Alex Okafor, DE for the New Orleans Saints at NFL.com |
Re: Ndamukong Suh Thread (MERGED)
Different positions. Can't compare.

Re: Ndamukong Suh Thread (MERGED)
I’ve been totally against this potential signing, but I’m going to put my faith in Payton making the right decision. If he and our players think it’ll work then let’s give it a shot.
One thing to think about: Jermon Bushrod was his teammate in Miami and would surely tell us if it was a bad idea. |
Re: Ndamukong Suh Thread (MERGED)
I've been following Okafor's visit the the Bucs today, and no word out of Bucs camp on an offer or if a deal is done. The longer we don't hear the more it sounds like no offer or he wants to talk to the Saints again.

Hey ... I'm kidding about potentially throwing unlimited dollars @ Suh. But I keep telling myself ... "win now mode, win now mode". Trust the Saints front office to do the right thing. |

Re: Ndamukong Suh Thread (MERGED)
Every one that is for signing suh, have you seen his stats the past 3 years? the money it would cost to sign him could be so much better spent. We have a de out there that played great before his injury. We could re-sign him for a quarter of the price and get more tackles/sacks. Save this money for depth. Saints don’t lack much now to be the front runner. Don’t waste 10-15 million a year on 43 tackles and 4 sacks!!!!!

I dont think Suh is a Sean Payton kind of guy.

You are right linemen on both sides shouldnt be aww shucks guys but mean and nasty bastards. Now granted suh get a lil carried away sometimes but its a adrenaline fueled sport. If he was as much trouble as some claim dan campbell and bushrod would of said steer from him. Also we have been missing the interior rush last year he brings that and the ability to take on double teams that free up other guys. |

Kind of like how I feel about it, but, on the other hand, the Saints have been missing that dominant inside tackle since like La'Roi Glover in the early 2000s. Its very hard to evaluate a DTs worth based on numbers alone, since it depends so much on the defensive scheme and what that player is asked to do within that scheme. Arguably some of the best 4-3 DTs of the past couple of decades may not have had the numbers stats-wise when it comes to tackles and sacks, but their performances have allowed other players on that defensive front to make plays that have elevated the respective worth of those players around them. I haven't really seen enough of footage of Suh playing since he left NFC North, so I don't how well Miami used him in their schemes, and if that has something to do with his stat numbers. I'm just tired of DTs that were supposedly difference makers, i.e. Jenkins, Ellis, Rogers, Franklin, etc., who ended up being just rotational guys at best or throwing away the potential of some of the players who have moved on from the roster like Johnson and Hicks. The decision shouldn't be between Okafor or Suh - or a DE and a DT - since those positions compliment each other. I would bet that the Saints would be more than fine with Hendrickson on the other side of the line if someone like Suh would line-up next to him. Also, Okafor leaving Tampa without a contract might suggest that he hasn't fully recovered from the injury, which to my knowledge is not the easiest type to comeback from anyways. Bottom line, if the F/O thinks Suh is the answer at that position, and they can make the financial side make sense - I'm all for it and actually welcome the bold move to improve the perennial weak spot of the defensive front. |
Re: Ndamukong Suh Thread (MERGED)
Titans in the mix now too
Think this is going to get expensive |
Re: Ndamukong Suh Thread (MERGED)
Was Ireland in Miami at any point while Suh was there? If so he can give the Front office some insight.
