How is this the NFL's fault. Other players on other teams have gotten PED suspensions. We are no outlier.

Am I surprised by this? Yes, but now I know why Ingram looked so dominant against fluff competition and division games now and so incapable against the stout run defenses or teams that sell out to stop the run.

Maybe we can go and get a top back next offseason in free agency. Someone like Bell.

Someone on a recent thread posted they didn't know why people were down on Ingram or think he isn't that great.

- I don't know he was worth the draft pick at the time
- then there is this... lol. SMH.

While he certainly did something incredibly stupid here, the degree of stupidity is hard to ascertain cause they don't say what he tested positive for. It could have been something accidental, it could have been obvious PED use. We may actually never know.

Is now time to trade him and/or cut our losses with him? Likely not as he does not count much against the cap.

Re: Mark Ingram Suspended Four Games

5 things to know about the Saints' running back depth

For 2nd straight season, a member of the Saints' offense begins the season on suspension
For the second consecutive season, a key member of the Saints' offense who is entering a contract year will begin the season on suspension. Ingram, who switched agents this offseason, is coming off career highs of 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns along with 58 receptions for 416 yards.
In 2017, then-Saints receiver Willie Snead began the season on suspension, missing the first three games because of an offseason DUI. Snead too was entering a contract year and ended up joining the Baltimore Ravens as a restricted free agent after the Saints declined to match their offer.

The Saints drafted a running back in the sixth round
The team also drafted running back Boston Scott out of Louisiana Tech in the sixth round of this year’s draft.
Scott was drafted with a special teams role in mind but he excelled as runner between the tackles later in his career for the Bulldogs.
The former walk-on played one of the best games of his career in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in the 2015 New Orleans Bowl where he rushed for more than 100 yard on just four carries.
During the draft process Scott said that teams contacting often compared him to former Saints running back Darren Sproles. Sproles enjoyed three productive seasons in New Orleans from 2011-13.
The Saints could also explore the free agent market to add another running back as several veterans including former Saints running back Adrian Peterson are still on the market.

I've been one of the most frequent critics since the front office used a first and second round pick to take Ingram, really any RB in the first round...

Let's be fair - I'd posted/shared Ingram secured new representation a couple of months ago; Ingram's camp had already expressed they wanted a reworked contract...

The way this timing is getting spun is a disingenuous (i.e. #fakenews); now is the Mickster or other leaking to manipulating this?

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone anymore than bounty programs existing. You don’t stay competitive amongst elite competition in a brutal sport on whole milk, chicken, multi-vitamins, and a protein shake.

I am surprised at three suspensions in as many years but only because that’s a low number compared to reality.

Are we naive enough to believe that after 5-6 seasons a player just got good? It’s not a coincidence that the three suspensions were for players that had hot previous seasons, the league knows where to look.

I wouldn't have been giving him a big paid contract after this year anyway. RB is pretty easy to get players in. Why pay big money for a man just about to enter his 30s. Get soneone young, hungry and cheap with luttle wear on them

The Vicodin coach is long gone ... Vitt. Bountygate was total BS. Three players takings PED's? Name a team that hasn't had that many hit in the past dozen years. A frickin' throat lozenge can trigger a failed PED test. So can a diluted urine sample. In the Star Cap suspension it was an completely unlisted ingredient in an over the counter supplement.

Exactly. The Ingram camp knew all about this long before now. Who knows, Ingram may have fired his old agent due to this case. The media could have easily interpreted the change of agent to desire for a contract renegotiation. Or it could be coming from the ex-agent.

Either way, that's why I refuse to take a negative look at anything that comes out via the media until ALL facts are known. By that time LAZY fans have already made a decision based upon earlier speculations they they continue to take as fact.

He just lost 25% of his $ on his current contract... about $1 million.

Hope the Saints don't make a mistake here.

This is what I am talking about. First, there were no bounty programs. Twenty-six Saints players and coaches testified to that fact in District Court in Jonathon Vilma's Suit against Goodell and the league? Did you forget about that? There was a simple performance pool only, that was common in every defensive locker room in the league. There were, at the time, no rules against such a thing.

And where did you come up with three Saints being suspended for PED use in the past three years? To begin with, Snead was suspended for a DUI. It had nothing to do with PED's. Try including at least something resembling facts in your idiotic claims.

You implied that Vaccaro, Snead and Ingram's performances were due to PED use. That is crap. Vaccaro got hit for Adderall during the season. That isn't something you take to affect your regular season play. He said he took it to stay alert while attending his brother's game on a Saints bye week. He was wrong, but it wasn't anything you can ever get away with to "enhance performance" on the field.

You did admit you were wrong about Snead. The jury is still out on what triggered the Ingram violation.

And, you are still misrepresenting the whole deal with the performance pool being trumped up by Goodell to appear to be something vile. Yes, that does raise my ire a bit.

ChrisXVI 05-09-2018 08:39 AM

Re: Mark Ingram Suspended Four Games

The league doesn’t disclose what triggered the positive test. Players say it was Adderall when often times it’s steroids (which is rumored to be the case with Vaccaro.)

Well, y'all know where I stand on Ingram - that said, ALL men should be afforded due process - even if Herr Goodell believes he's omnipotent...

Let the appeal play out and then let Mark Ingram's advisers prepare the press release and let MI himself explain the circumstances...

Clearly not on B&G. Funny how many members suddenly come out of the woodwork to quickly lay blame whenever any negative news surfaces concerning the Saints. But, to be honest, I see it happen the same way on other team's forums, as well. Some people just enjoy thinking the worst. I never could understand that concept. It seems so counterproductive.

Oh, and to your point, once "due process" was allowed to complete in the performance pool case all players were cleared of any wrong doing by Paul Tagliabue at which time Vilma dropped his suit against the league.
