DT
TE
OL (depth)
Safety

Question marks .. CB (PJ Williams), PRob is a year older coming off injury, WR (Dez, Meredith, Tre), Davison and Andrus Peat (reasonable contract).

Draft the BPA with the 2nd round pick.

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Free Agency

Regarding some key Saints Free Agents...

P.J. is not under contract so the only question mark with him is if he's worth bringing back. Not sure I'm rushing to bring him back. See what the market sets his value and maybe bring him back at end of Free Agency...

Meredith's 2019 cap number of $6,456,250; now, whether cut Pre/Post Jun 1 he's $2,750,000 in dead money and $3,706,250 in savings; cut him 'cause we've got better upside in Tre'quan and Kirkwood...

Dez is not under contract. He's a slow, unreliable old x-receiver at best. he's not tearing the roof off the top of defenses so I don't understand spending valuable cap space to bring him back...

Tyeler Davison is a better NT than folks want to give credit & was the point of attack for the No.1 rated rush defense. The line for him is around four years, annual cap number of 7.5 mil, 40% guaranteed...

Andrus Peat is a real tough call; Peat is way better than PFF's grading; also, remember that Peat plays hurt, latest was a week after surgery to put pins in his punch hand - something Mr. Glass would never do...

With Peat, re-work contract now to lower cap number, 70% guaranteed as incentive. But the real problem still with Peat is he's a natural, better LT than LG - this is part of the conundrum Mr. Glass creates...

We may actually see Peat's contract re-worked and then see him traded; after Ramczyk, I like Peat and Unger, but one or both may be surprises soon if their cap numbers are not re-worked...

Oh, in the by the way department, @CantGuardMike has got to be paid now before we're looking at a Cap-strangling Julio contract...

Agree on P.J. Felt he performed better with a solid cast around him. Would like to have him back. He's a "nice to have"

If Meredith is healed, he's our guy. And just 26 years old, has plenty left in the tank. He made lesser QBs look very good... https://www.profootballfocus.com/new...t-third-season He's a "nice to have"

If it's not Meredith, it's Dez. Both can be very effective in the slot, overpowering smaller Nickle CBs and beating linebackers. he's a "nice to have"

Davison was nice to have. His impact in run support is above average, in pass is below average. I'm not over-paying him. He's a "Want to have"

Peat can be traded. I said it before the deadline. I don't want to hear about his injury - Armstead came back from a torn peck. Peat was a 1st round pick who's played average. I'd like to see us upgrade the spot this offseason. He's a "don't have to have"

Peat played ten days after having pins put in his hand!!! Mr. Glass hasn't played but a half season each year since he signed to the Big Mo...

But Cousin Sean addressed your comment today...

But they were small pins...

Let's not compare Armstead to Peat. TA is much better at his position than Peat is. Agree with Sean we have Clapp. Let's move him for another pick!

AND... If we're really looking for cap space, can't we start with Mr Brees???

DT
TE
OL (depth)
Safety

I think DT is paramount.

TE is more of a game plan position now instead of having a guy like Graham. Let's be honest, Kamara is the playmaker.

OL depth, yes. Another Strief type guy can be had later in the draft.

Vonn Bell is our SS of the future. Check out PFF quote: Pro Football Focus (PFF) graded Bell's run defense at 88.2, third among all NFL safeties in 2018. His coverage skills have improved greatly over each season however.
Bell's overall grade from PFF was 75.3, 27th out of 101 defensive backs at the position. The 24-yr. old safety played better in coverage as this season progressed as well, often capably taking on an opposing tight end or even wideout out of the slot

I would add WR, LB depth (maybe starter over Klein) don't see solid LB options this year in our range.

Don't get the wanting to upgrade/replace Klein - this reminds me of the criticism towards Shanle who many here regret criticizing during those lean LBing years just a couple of seasons back...

A.J. can play MIKE well, not great, but well. And he had some terrific games last year at SAM (e.g. Dallas game). Further, we're in Nickel, Heavy Nickel, or Dime more than 50% of the time...

We're fine with Klein (yeah, I just did that); we need to worry about not having but one DT, just one, UNO DT under contract able to play the first four games of the upcoming season...

Klein was decent in 2018. Decent. Still nothing wrong with bringing in one more young, solid linebacker. Craig is 30 & Te'o is a Free Agent so no guarantees there.

I'd rank LB at #4 on need. IMO this is Klein's final season (expiring contract) in NO.

Saints need to take the Patriots approach and always look to upgrade in the off season.

Klein was graded comparably to Anthony Barr, Myles Jack; factor in for what we're paying, it's a no-brainer to keep him around...

Also a re-visit of how terrible the selection of Rick Leonard in the fourth round was last year and how we'll be paying for it...
