Does a 40 time truly have any correlation to greatness in the NFL? Or even success? I would think that hands, intelligence and work ethic would all be far more important. Yet is always 40 times that get all of the 'wow'.

Personally, I think CB is the only position where it really matters. Only one CB has had any success in the NFL running 4.64 or slower- Josh Norman.

I can see that. Recovery speed to cover your ass. Offensively I don't see it a being near as important. So many WR burners have ended up being busts, right?

Jerry Rice ran a 4.7 40, whatever happened to him?

This goes back to a previous post (TCU Reagor) of mine … don't get too carried away with 40 times in shorts at the combine.

Rarely did you ever see Rice get caught from behind at MS Valley, and San Fran. Perfection of the route tree and had "violent hands". Walsh always said he had "long speed" and a 2nd gear like no other. Football speed.

Trust the tape.

The Combine is my least favorite part of the off-season ... sure let's have these rookies run 40's and believe religiously in all these metrics, then not draft them for another 2 months or get them in camp for another 5 months ... the world moves too fast for half this crap to matter! Unless you own a hotel or restaurant in Indianapolis, nothing worth getting excited over, it is just off-season filler.

I heard that the only real value gained from the combines are the physicals and the interviews. The rest isn't as important as game tape. It has become geared more toward the fans, thus the move to primetime.
