With regards to the cap, reworking the numbers would spread the borrowed cap money from previous years out longer so the team can be viable in Free Agency...

Then there's the fact that admittedly his long range bomb (arm strength) is no longer there, he's still a Top 5 quarterback in the league...

And yes, I still support and like the idea of transitioning to Taysom Hill this season as well...
I'm pretty sure if Brees returns, we're probably going to overpay him and that will be another cap problem for us.

That is my current nightmare with the Saints. Letting Bridgewater walk, then overpaying Brees and yet another year of an offense that can easily be shut down by taking MT and Kamara out of the equation and blitzing Brees.

I know Brees will be back this season, but drafting Tua to be his successor would be a mistake. I also think Bridgewater will be the odd man out this season, he does just enough to be a good but not quite great qb and I can't fault his style of play one bit. The wildcard here is Hill if Tua would get drafted, he may decide to play else where losing him. So if I had to pick between keeping Brees and drafting Tua as his successor or keeping Bridgewater and Hill cap charge or not Bridgewater and Hill would be a better choice in my book. We're going to have to pay either way Brees want be cheap, Tua rookie contract, Bridgewater might be had for mid range starter money, Hill may want mid range starter money also. Got to see how this one shakes out?

I agree with JP that Brees is definitely still a top five QB in the league today. What would you consider "overpaying"?

And also, Alabama isn't know to churn out top-flight NFL Quarterbacks.

If brees retires, which he won’t, I would give hill a shot but draft a qb if the right one is there. Tua is not the right one.

Two things, first, look at Brees' QBR, still Top 3 QBR; and though I'd concede he's not the QB he was five years ago, he's still very much an elite-producing QB, so it would be copasetic if he's an avg Top 5 pay...

Second, look at Brees' contract recent seasons, he's actually been signing to the proverbial "home-town" discount (production to pay), so unless he and agent demand to be highest paid QB, let's just breathe...

Look, it's time to start transitioning to the next Quarterback, I'd be the first to admit that point...

That said, not reworking his cap number, which can only be done with an extension, we're not going to be able to address pressing needs at LG, WR, DB in Free Agency - we'll still have roster holes...

Not addressing those deficiencies, we'll be another quick out in the playoffs, there's no way Brees' contract is not getting re-worked from the Saints/Team Perspective to have a viable, competitive roster...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Well, not in the Saban years; but Bart Starr, Joe Namath, Ken Stabler are not a bad pedigree either...
