Drew Brees continuing to play quarterback for the New Orleans Saints means our 2020 fall is more than likely to be very fun and interesting. Author: Ralph Malbrough / Contributing Writer Published: 9:42 AM CST February 19, 2020 Updated: 10:22 AM CST February 19, 2020 NEW ORLEANS — The most amazing thing about 41-year-old Drew Brees announcing he was going to play a 20th season in the NFL and 14th with the New Orleans Saints was how unremarkable it all felt. The entire sports world seemed to shrug and say, “Of course Brees was coming back,” and then 10 minutes later moved on to the Houston Astros cheating scandal or back to looking at Tom Brady's Instagram for hidden messages to try and guess where Tom will play in 2020. Drew Brees is about to become just the sixth player to throw 30 passes in a game at 41 or older. By the way, only Tom Brady has done it more than seven times. Drew Brees has been so extraordinary the last 14 years in New Orleans I wonder if a portion of Saints fans clamoring for Taysom Hill to be the Saints full time quarterback is a product of watching Brees be so good for so long we've forgotten just how hard great quarterbacking is. There are Saints fans graduating college whose entire experience of a non-Drew Brees Saints quarterbacking is watching Teddy Bridgewater go 5-0 in 2019. Since Drew Brees arrived in 2006, Saints fandom -- more than the valleys, the losses, and disappointments -- has been filled with hope, the hope that our grandest football dreams are possible. I never feel older than when I'm arguing with some 25-year-old on Twitter telling me the Saints need to move on from Drew Brees because they can't win in the playoffs because Drew can't throw downfield and Taysom Hill is the future and they just want to move on to something else. Like what? Less winning? My friend Bradley Warshauer from Black and Gold Review has the perfect explanation of Saints fans “2018 has driven us mad. Now, the longer we stay close to the Super Bowl without getting in, the crazier we're all going to get.” Read the rest here ... |

Re: Forecast: Drew Brees’ return is really good news, here’s why
Did anyone seriously think it’s not good news? Hell did anyone honestly think he wasn’t coming back?
Look I know the situation and yes it could be time to move on but there is no one out there this year that would be a better choice for our future. We are better off waiting it out to see how our draft situation works out in the next couple years. Anyone else out there would be a big reach including TB and Hill. If there was a Qb out there that is truly attainable and could be our franchise guy then I would say it’s time to move on. That isn’t the case. This is the best option for now and our future. How and the hell is this a forecast? More like an opinion. |

I'm keeping my expectations low after the last 3 playoff exits. We know how this is going to end. |

Sorry, Carnac, but YOU are not WE. |

You thought we were "all in" the last couple years? Just wait. Loomis is about to go so far in he'll be out the other side! |

We be pleased with Brees coming back ...Follow TB to Tampa Miami Carolina Chicago Detroit San Diego Raiders Cincinnati should be an interesting ride. Wish Teddy nothing but the best but he was never going to be the next QB for the Saints.

Re: Forecast: Drew Brees’ return is really good news, here’s why
I don’t get the love for Teddys play. I get the love for Teddy, great story, great guy, humble, and the ultimate team player.
The fact of the matter is he didn’t really do squat. “He” didn’t win anything, as stated above elite play from a healthy defense along with a good running game and ball control won 5 games. Brees on the other hand has single handily won games numerous times when our defense was dead last in just about every category. Our defense was absolutely sick the first 1/4 season. I can’t remember a year when we got hit so hard with the injury bug. Teddy may wind up being a decent Qb with the right team around him in the right system but he will never be elite. I don’t see Teddy as the type of guy who will go out and win you games when you are down by two scores early. If Teddy had to play the full season I have my doubts we would have won another game. |
