"The game-day active roster will increase from 46 to 48 players (although one of the extra players must be an offensive lineman, which will give teams more flexibility to have three extra linemen). Practice squads will expand from 10 players to 12 in 2020 and 2021 and to 14 starting in 2022. Practice-squad salaries also are going up -- the minimum salary is $8,000 per week in the current CBA, and it will rise to $11,500 by 2022 -- and those players will be eligible for 401(k) and tuition assistance benefits.

Two practice-squad players per week may be elevated to the team's roster, meaning game-week roster sizes could effectively increase from 53 to 55. And a player elevated from the practice squad to the 55-man roster could be sent back to the practice squad two times without having to clear waivers."

Interesting... so those extra two spots have to be practice squad players that can be called up.

Apparently. Given you only have two "free" call ups per individual they may be used sparingly. Unless you have injury concerns the normal game week roster may continue to be 53 with fewer inactives on game day.

Other side of that is if your team is developing a player that flashes in his call-up opportunity, then you've got to move to protect him or a lesser team raids your practice squad...

I'd sure like to bring in an additional RB for this roster; maybe even bring back Jonathan Williams if he's still available; the veteran RB market sure dried up quick...

Wonder if we could even move Warford for a RB for depth and then sign a Free Agent Guard to look at in camp?

With Frank Gore signing with the Jets, can't help but wonder if we don't need to bring in another running back, who's more of a running back than a kicking game specialist...

Guaranteed to find a value before the season starts. I can't say it enough - San Fran made the Superbowl with three journeymen RBs.
