HE IS A RAPIST.

And I'm sorry for me that's what is most important.

I don't care how good of a player he is.

I've made plenty of big mistakes in my life (not rape!) but I'd like to believe that those stupid choices won't define me by my peers.

Winston has made some awful choices in his young life but after perusing his twitter timeline he seems to be legitimately making an effort to be a better man. I'm all about a good redemption story.

If you tell me Winston is the future here, I might have to fight you. But as a backup, on a reasonable price? Why not. Maybe he'll even have an epiphany, sitting behind Drew.

Well the Teddy Bridgewater deal worked out for us and for Teddy. So hopefully the " Powers To Be" are repeating their vision with Jameis.

On another note it looks like Mike Tomlin was interested as well.
Before he agreed to a deal with the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Jameis Winston reportedly received an offer from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Yea well Teddy was a great guy on and off the field, Winston not so much. If he has to play he’s going to cost us a game when he plants a defenders head in the ground like he did to Jordan. He’s a titty baby and lacks maturity and discipline. Then there’s the interceptions when he had one of the best receiving corps in the league.
Whatever, it is what it is. He helps us win games then great but I won’t have much respect for him unless I see a big change in behavior on the field.

The man threw for over 5,000 yards last season and it's clear to me that Payton believes that he could give us something close to what Teddy did last year if Drew were to go down again. So, I'll just have to hope he never sees the field.

Related to the nasty pick ratio...Saints players have caught more passes from Jameis Winston than from Taysom Hill ....

Winston has high upside. He just needs to be taught not to make stupid mistakes. I'm skeptical of it actually happening though cause Arians is good when it comes to coaching up QBs. I trust Payton a bit more though, so I don't think he's a lost cause.

Quoting SmashMouth here:

If the Saints wait until 4 p.m. Monday or later to officially sign Winston, he won't count against this year's compensatory draft choice formula.

Might be why nothing has been finalized yet.

JW has talent. He needs to learn better decision, patience, and be more dedicated to the game.

This isn't an awful decision. He can come in right away and play. How effectively will depend on how serious he sees this opportunity. Talent is there though.

The guy with a straight up gunslinger personality. Has a cannon of an arm and has wheels to take off. 5000+ yrd with 30 touchdowns, the int's most came from trying to make something out of nothing( that's the scary part of his game) Talent wise huge upside. I can see Paytons wheels turning. Ole Crableggs cuts down on the int ratio by half his stats would have to be up there with the best of them. I don't mind the signing as long as he doesn't act like we owe him something( diva like) he will be worth the money + some.

Not to take away from throwing for 5000 yards, but you I would argue he had the best group of WRs and TEs to toss it to. Tampa wasn’t a serious threat because of Winston, they had talent all over the field and are now considered SB contenders without Winston there...

Bucs "SB contenders" now? … lol.

Old man Brady will become a sitting duck for NFC pass rushers.

They're "Super Bowl contenders" every year according to the media and then they stink it up year in year out.

The 29th ranked defense could be a reason for them not contending last year.

If there was a year to pick up a player that was good on the field but a sh1t show off the field this is it. There isnt any social-izing but virtual.

Neither Drew nor Sean are Dr. Phil and they arent fixing anyone, if they could.. Cooks would stil be on the team.

Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that we picked up a 3rd QB, Sean didn't like having to temper his Taysom usage last year when Taysom became the #2... With Winston as a safety net Sean can use Hill as he pleases.

Exactly. And Winston is starter quality, as was Bridgewater. Not top half of the league starter quality, but definitely better than several at this point.

Re: Jameis Winston 1 yr deal

I wonder if the league is shifting again in focus. We have had around a decade of pass first, throwing QBs. I mean there cannot have been many eras this full of talented QBs Brees, Brady, Rogers, Manning at the very elite. Now a younger generation has arrived the last few years, those that don't want to stay in the pocket, that can create as the field starts to break with Wilson and now Jackson, Watson and Maholmes. All work well with one elite receiver and players that can work after the catch and cheaper but more RBs to compliment.

Teams started drafting smaller at LB to cope with the pass, wonder if this will lead to teams looking to exploit that.

Just mumbling outloud

Those guys have always been around they just aren't durable enough to play as long as the pocket passers.

Their defense was 15th in total yards and 1st against the run, but sure you can have a dishonest premise using points against. Of course you should then understand that Winston is largely responsible for those points against throwing TDs for the other team and giving the opposing team great starting position.

Also
3rd in the league in points scored on offense
11th in sacks (47!) three more and they're top 5
17th interceptions
8th in fumbles lost

So, now we've got a bunch of statistics to help tell whatever version of the truth we want...

I am just not feeling this move. If Brees go down we’re in trouble. Hopefully that 1st rounder is worth it, if not back to relying on Wardford and fingers crossed Brees survive

What language is that, is my translation is close?

~ Where ever Tom Brady takes snaps is considered a SB contender.

And they were the 30th ranked pass defense. Quick...name a TB defensive back.

24th ranked rushing defense too. 23rd ranked offensive line I think?
