After the Saints got screwed in the now infamous NFC Championship game by the refs on a blatant no-call Pass Interference seen 'round the world, the NFL implemented booth reviews for Pass Interference in 2019. That won't be returning in 2020 because of.... reasons...

Re: NFL 2020 NO MORE Booth Reviews for Pass interference
I nailed this nearly a year ago. The league wouldn't over turn any field rulings and the review would go away.
"The rule truly did not make as much of a difference on the game as we all expected. It wasn't often that the league went back on their original ruling once the challenge flag was thrown. " |

No surprise at all. The league was never in favor of adding the review so the experiment was set up to fail. I saw plenty of challenges last year that should have reversed, but they refused to do so. It was obvious early in the year that this was going to go away after one season.

Went through the motions with it. Purposely didn't get the calls correct. The NFL wanted it to fail miserably. Now the refs can decide games without refute.

Re: NFL 2020 NO MORE Booth Reviews for Pass interference
IMO this was childish from the start. NFL knew the refs wouldn't budge but they let coaches anguish over it for a season until it took it's ball and went home.
Funny how the AAF perfected the process in two weeks and the NFL couldn't (wouldn't) |

Re: NFL 2020 NO MORE Booth Reviews for Pass interference
The problem with this is that the original problem is not solved. There is no recourse for a team if there is a completely screwed up egregious call/non-call on a play. The NFL should be embarrassed by the lack of a flag on that TLL play in the NFCCG.
I put my idea back on the table again. Coaches get a black flag. That flag can be used to call for a review of anything at any time. However, that flag can only be used 1 single time by a team during the entire regular season, and 1 time in each playoff game. It's only purpose is "break glass in case of emergency" on a really screwed up call. "Will coach throw the black flag?" would become an interesting strategy question especially during the regular season as one it's down, you never get it back. It's scarcity and power would mean really careful thought as to when to use it. Maybe then the refs and the New York review offices will take them seriously. I just feel it's completely unfair that teams have no recourse at all to screwed up calls/non-calls. There needs to be something in place to give teams the opportunity to ask for a screwed up call/non-call to be reversed. SFIAH |
Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO
Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good. |

Re: NFL 2020 NO MORE Booth Reviews for Pass interference
Not surprising; NFL begrudgingly passed this rule late in the off season to try and quiet the Who Dat Nation (Note to NFL, you can't silence the Who Dat Nation!) And then instructed on field and replay officials not to enforce it.
Roger Go2hell's way of b1tch slapping the Saints again! |
