Only then because that trip was already booked for sometime. Did not renew my season tickets and have not stepped foot in the superdome since. I don't watch my kids throw their tantrums so why would I buy a ticket and $9.00 beers to watch rich spoiled kids throw one?

Fantasy Football/gambling has made the NFL as popular as it is now and will continue for the future, until it doesn't. The end of the NFL could come from injuries, a general decline in talent or more than likely the greed of the owners and players. I don't care which one finished the job.
The NFL should outlive us all. And I would have bought those season ticket rights from you. We've been on the waiting list for over 15 years. I don't care what players do before games or off the field. I love the game for what it is ... entertainment. Life is too important to let anything to do with the fringe activities ruin my good time. Sure, I get bummed by a loss or a horrible call, but I let everything else roll off my back and even those don't stick with me for long.

Lol, the game won't outlive us all. Perhaps a more accurate statement would be the game *should have* outlived us all. If it were not run by a cavalcade of morons it would have a long life yet, but unless they reverse course quickly it will hit a peak and then start to plummet in the next few years. I'm not even factoring in all of the political bs, this is strictly based off of the neverending rule changes that are eroding the very essence of the game, and the terrible leadership of the owners and their puppet Goodell. The political stuff will lead to a faster end as well. Rest assured, now that the league has bent the knee (no pun intended) to BLM, more and more of these fringe groups will come demanding that the NFL bow to them as well. Next in line will be the LGBTHIJKLMNOP+ people. They tried a few years ago with the whole Michael Sam thing but the timing wasn't quite right. They'll be back in full force, the league will cave, alienate even more fans, then the next group will come along..lather, rinse, repeat. You're probably correct in your continual insistence that there aren't that many people upset enough about the kneeling to quit watching (though I'm equally as certain that you underestimate how many people are already at that point) but it will get there soon enough. Get whatever enjoyment you can from it while you still can, by all means. But you're kidding yourself if you honestly think the league isn't in serious trouble.

You, my friend, are the one kidding himself. You are projecting your personal wishes toward the outcome of the league, but in actuality, the economic future of the league is in great hands. The NFL is far and away the most financially stable league in the entire world and the case of raw ass from a tiny percentage of Americans is not going to affect that status one iota. Bring on the LGBTQ and such. The vast majority of the world (which is now a quickly growing segment of the league's stakeholders) do not have an issue with that at all.

And to hell with the "essence of the game" argument. The game I started watching almost 60 years ago was different than the game I was watching 40 years ago. And that game was different than the game I was watching 20 years ago. And the game I will be watching 20 years from now will be different and I don't care. It's entertainment. Nothing more and nothing less. There is nothing sacred about it. The league has continued to grow through all the changes and will continue to do the same long past when you have met your maker.

The best thing you can do is accept that fact and just enjoy it for what it is ... entertainment. If you can't then you have been in it for the wrong reason all along and won't be missed. Sorry, but that is the brutal fact.

Hahahahahahahahaha. What an utterly typical and predictable response. Honestly I'm not sure why I, or anyone, tries with you. If you're happy ingesting the rainbows that supreme leader Goodell expels from his anus, more power to you. I won't try to reason with you anymore. Your blinders are on and your hands and pressed tightly over your ears. This will be the last time I interact with you at all, so as a courtesy I'll let you know now that you need not respond to anything I post from here on. I won't read it, won't respond to it, won't even so much as acknowledge its existence. Have a wonderful life and good day to you.

Re: Season over before it starts

We are about to see a perfect storm of 1/2 empty stadiums (and maybe missed games) due to the Corona virus and angry fans that will no longer buy anything NFL related this season. The viewership will decline whether you want to believe it or not, Guido.

This will mean a large drop in income. The salary cap will be affected. Contracts will shrink. Players will be angry at the outcome and wonder how they got to that point. Who knows? Maybe that will bring the NFL back down to earth and the game and its players might be watchable again.

The NFL generates $11 billion of revenue annually. $3 billion of that comes from butts in the stands. That includes parking, concessions, game day merchandise, etc. The remaining $8 billion come from contracted revenues with broadcasting partners. The total revenue will absolutely be down. But $8 billion still places the product as a huge success. Sure, angry fans may not buy merchandise. But the vast majority of fans worldwide are not angry. As for viewership. Every person that would have normally been in the stands will now be tuning in instead. Viewership in one small demographic may indeed be down. But that will not offset the rest of the population that is starved for the distraction of the actual game itself.

And don't worry about the future earnings and contract implications. COVID-19 will have hundreds of times more effect on those than the supposed refusal of a small minority of fans that actually do decide to "tune out". Those concerns are already being addressed by the league and the NFLPA as we speak.

That would be great, Ice, Ice, Baby. Me and a group of Hou Dats
here were quite excited about Houston's XFL Team, and its players seemed very grateful, before our state succumbed to The Hoax.

I remember bubble gum cards with football players pictures, stats, history, and also on the back- Their off-season occupation.

I wont be disappointed, Guido. Nor will I be elated, if my predictions come true.
I wont be anything. Thats my whole point. I HAVE no emotional investment in this anymore. If they stay rich, if they crash, if the Saints with the SB, if Atlanta does, if they put on shiny pants and sing Pirates of Penzance.
I wont care.
My emotional investment, which motivated me to drive 6 hours each way, win or lose- They threw it out the window. If anyone else feels me, ok.
If im the only one, still ok.
I'm looking forward to the fun new stuff I'll be doing this Fall.
And having more money.

Kind of harsh, methinks. AsylumGuido has said things I don't agree with but also had some valid points. I think we all rub people up the wrong way sometimes because we all have different ideas about we think would be best for this team, that group or the other guys. What it boils down to is that we are all selfish, but what defines us is how we respond when we don't get our own way and even then we may be inconsistent with our reactions. Anyway, I'm the best so there's no point in anyone else even trying to do stuff.

I don't think it was that harsh. I didn't call him names, I didn't make any accusations that aren't true, I even wished him a happy life and good day, and I genuinely hope he has both. That said, I personally can't stand him, his opinions, his attitude or the way he talks to people. I don't wish any harm upon him, but I also never want to speak to him again. This place has been much more peaceful since blocking him.
