Re: Saints beat the Chargers in a MNF thriller, regain 1st in NFC South

It was good to see the team pull that one out on a defensive stand in OT. It could have easily gone the other way, but the team regrouped in the second half and played well enough to win.

A few thoughts:
  • Seeing Kenneth Murray playing last night reminded how much I wanted to see him at the 24th pick in the 2020 NFL draft.
  • The defensive line, including Davenport, played better than the previous games. Didn't see Malcolm Roach though.
  • Our secondary sometimes... what are they doing?
  • Anyone have stats on Ruiz? I know Nick Easton started, but then I saw Ruiz out there quite a bit. Who is our OL? It seems like they aren't sure.
  • Drew is definitely throwing some passes behind the receivers
  • I'd like to see more Marquez Calloway as a WR. Who the hell is Fowler III?
  • Penalties were cleaned up A LOT last night. Might just be an unbiased officiating crew, or a bit more discipline, maybe both. There was one play where I'm sure the defense hit Drew in the head, and there was no call.
  • I feel like they are forcing Taysom Hill in at certain situations, and everyone knows what the play is. Seemed like his package worked better when it was sprinkled in at different times.
  • Chargers defense was without 4-5 starters, let's keep that in mind
Overall a good W, but a lot of room for improvement.

Seriously what was he doing on that 70 yard TD? What were all the DB's doing most of the night?

Jenkins is a major downgrade, Bell was 10 times better and I said it as soon as it happened.

Marquez Callaway - very interesting player, looked dangerous on punt returns with no thanks to JT Gray and bailed Brees out a couple times with balls thrown behind him that he still came down with.

Wtf was gray’s problem last nite.

Wow, still beating the Dennis Allen dead horse? 14 points you cannot blame on the D thanks to Drew and Special teams. So the D only gave up 13. Held their run game in check, and was harassing their QB all game. What are you people expecting the Dome Patrol? It's 2020 you are not going to have that dominant defense on a week to week. If you look at the scoreboard for this week if a team scored under 20 pts it's not so much great D's as it is bad O's.

Missed PAT, Missed FG that hit uprights is why we're not talking about a loss today...

A Real Defense does not collapse on third and long or fourth and long as Dennis Allen's defenses do on a nearly cued basis...

And I find Sean Payton and Dennis Allen have too high an opinion of Malcolm Jenkins and what he can/can't do...

Throughout Bree's tenure in NO, it's been the defense or lack thereof.

We still have issues stopping the long ball. To me, it's bad scheme especially considering we have quite a few talented players on that side of the ball.

QB's gashing us with the long ball, year after year after year. Maybe CSP is ok with just being "mediocre" on defense?

Glad to see you say this too because you seem to know a ton about the secondary. What do you think it’s going to take for them to get it right.

I don't care in the least how and as long as we win it is all that matters. The NFL is a week to week league and if you stress over every detail every week you are not going to enjoy it. I don't care what Payton does or doesn't do. I don't care what Allen does or doesn't do. A win is a win. When we win I am overjoyed! When we lose I am disappointed but grateful I had the opportunity to watch my beloved Saints play and am looking forward to that next opportunity. I'm not going to agonize over what I see as trivial details and let it spoil my simple enjoyment. I am being entertained and I am getting what I am paying for ... yes, Sunday Ticket.

Every week every team has players that make great plays and every week every team has players that make bad plays. It's all part of the game.

The one thing that does take some of the joy out of following the NFL and my team is the clockwork response from others after every game with the same complaints about this coach or that or this player or that. Rinse and repeat.

We've won games we COULD'A lost. We've lost games we SHOULD'A won. It is all a part of the game.

AG, that kinda has a bearing on whether the team is successful or not and you've got that Mr. Sunshine disposition that we love after a win...

And is so far as what others have to say, that's just sprinkles on the ice cream of a Saints game, sometimes it's chocolate, sometimes nuts, but no matter others' takes, have my own unique take and it's all good...
