While I’m glad he wasn’t signed, I don’t see that anything was wasted in pursuing him. If nothing else it threw a wrench into Atl and Carolina’s plans.

I believe it also resulted in our picking up the additional 1st rounder which eventually turned into Olave and Penning.

Maybe. I also think the “pursuit” for Watson caused them to re-evaluate the salary and cap situation. In other words clearing up money to even possibly sign him allowed that space to go to Mayes, Landry and Matthews.
