Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
I am beginning to give up hope that we'll add an affordable WR in free agency. There is still a shot that Loomis has something in the works. We did re-sign Tre' Quan Smith. Personally, I don't think he'll ever be any better than a #3 or #4 WR, but as it turns out we need one of those on the team to fill out the depth chart and he does know the system.
There are a few reasons to feel like Smith may take a step forward this season when it clicks and he finally puts it together. We have a new WR coach to work with 3Q on developing his game. We have a new strength and conditioning program to help him get on the practice field where maybe he can put it together while staying healthy. On one play he looks great and then once again he disappears for long stretches. It's time to take his game to the next level with consistency rather than just the usual highs and lows of Tre' Quan's time in black and gold. It's seems to me that he simply lacks a steady focus when times are tough. One moment he's making the play of the day. After that he's back to running the wrong route or dropping the pass. Mental issues are what is holding him back. He's got size, speed, and he is a a very good blocker, which is critical, to the down field YAC numbers. I value good blockers! I wasn't happy when I read that we were bringing him back but upon further reflection I'll be looking forward to watching any improvements I can find. |

I look at Trequan and I see absolutely nothing special.
A flat-footed, slow plodder. Sure, "he's a good blocker" but he needs to be a playmaker. I've been the biggest Trequan non-believer for a few years now. There has been very little progress with him, period. |
