CHICAGO (AP) -- Maryland lottery officials announced early Saturday that their state sold what could become the world's largest lottery payout of all-time, but it wasn't immediately clear if that ticket holder would get sole possession of the $640 million jackpot or have to split it with other winners.
I know, playing the lottery is akin to paying a voluntary tax, the odds are astronomical and a professional wouldn't think of buying a ticket ... but $640 million? I had to take a shot.
What would you do with that money? Buy houses? Cars? Set up a foundation? Invest? All of the above, and more. You'll need some tax breaks. The Lions could use a defensive backfield & a running game, some of it could help towards the signing of Drew Brees ... financing the overthrow of the NFL Commissioner comes to mind. The possibilities are endless.
There is a downside, of course, to winning $640 million. Relatives you never knew you had come out of the woodwork, local charities begin pounding on your door and people suddenly begin to 'slip & fall' all over your property. Countless 'business opportunities' come your way and you'll never be without friends ever again, at least until you declare bankruptcy.
Oh well, it was good while it lasted, a daydream and 24hr pass away from it all ... for $10 ... that's cheaper then a movie.
"Nine losers & one winner", I say to the clerk as I hand her my Mega Millions picks ... it's a tradition, asking for 'one' winner and however many losers. Sport fans and gamblers are superstitious that way.
