Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints
Something to think about while COULD'A, WOULD'A, SHOULD'A AND WHAT IFFING over the Saints draft.
I know it's Baseball but just an example of how wrong "scouting" can be: MAKES ONE WONDER IF THEY DID IT THE "RIGHT WAY" HMMMMM. Mike Trout “Could be a decent regular, nothing more.” Lol. Trout is a 3x AL MVP and four-time AL MVP Runner-up. The furthest he’s ever fished out of the MVP race is 4th, in 2017, when he slashed .306/.442/.629 with 33 homers … because he played only 114 games. To be fair, Trout isn’t the only player The Show got *completely* wrong. Back in 2004, they argued that Miguel Cabrera (future Hall-of-Famer) “may be a career minor league outfielder.” |

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints
Now for Football EGGSPURTS:
Russell Wilson, Quarterback: The Sporting News had him of nine players who had the worst Senior Bowl performances. It predicted Wilson would go undrafted and sign somewhere as a free agent. Keep in mind this was only three months before the actual draft. The biggest issue was his height — he measured under 5-11 at the combine — and NFL.com said “it remains to be seen if he can throw effectively from the pocket at the next level.” Julian Edelman, Wide receiver: The Patriots took the former Kent State quarterback in the seventh round. This is the most insulting line: “Perhaps he’s just a camp arm to get the wide receivers some more work. It’s unlikely Edelman is being brought to New England to make an impact.” The report also noted he did not have a true position in the NFL at 5-foot-10, 198 pounds and that he might lack durability. The Indianapolis Colts’ Entire 1992 Draft You’d think NFL teams only hired the absolute best scouts on the market, right? Well, the Indianapolis Colts had the first AND second picks in the ’92 draft. Do you know how many Pro Bowls first-overall selection Steve Emtman and second-overall pick Quentin Coryatt combined to make? Zero. In fact, out of Indy’s 13 picks that year, second-round pick Ashley Ambrose was the only player to reach a Pro Bowl. He did that once in 1996. The 1992 draft is considered one of the worst of all time and is only the second draft ever to produce ZERO Hall of Famers. J.J. Watt: A reporter with CultureMap Houston heralded Auburn’s Nick Fairley as a player who’d “collect Pro Bowl berths for years to come.” In contrast, he referred to the Houston Texans’ 11th overall pick as “Pizza Boy J.J. Watt.” “Watt is a great story. But it’s hard to imagine him ever being a star,” the article reads. “It’s hard to see him changing games for Houston on defense.” |

That reporter really got it wrong on the Texans player … apparently he watched very little film on Watt at Wisconsin .
Not to mention Russ and Julian . You can't measure heart. |

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints
More Food For Thought all were picked in the First Round:
• Robert Griffin III (2012 by Redskins) • Ryan Tannehill (2012 by Dolphins) • Brandon Weeden (2012 by Browns) • E.J. Manuel (2013 by Bills) • Blake Bortles (2014 by Jaguars) • Johnny Manziel (2014 by Browns) • Teddy Bridgewater (2014 by Vikings) • Jameis Winston (2015 by Buccaneers) • Marcus Mariota (2015 by Titans) • Jared Goff (2016 by Rams) • Carson Wentz (2016 by Eagles) • Paxton Lynch (2016 by Broncos) When guys like Christian Ponder, John Sullivan and Daunte Culpepper are considered good, great and legendary picks respectively, it shows, at least on a relative scale, how difficult it is to draft a quality starter. Add to that the fact that a little over 2 out of every 3 players drafted are a bust - with over half (53%) of all draft picks adding no value to the team that drafted them- and 9 out of 10 have basically undistinguished careers in the NFL. |
