So far, it's already looking like LV and NO have agreed (or close) to compensation for Carr via trade.

Anything higher than a 3rd rounder is foolish. Maybe the Raiders eat some of his salary ? After how the Ceedy trade went down, I simply have no idea how this will turn out.

I'd prefer a young QB on a rookie contract.

I'm just a couch GM though

He's a better bridge QB than what we have in the QB room right now. At least that's the way I look at it. 4th or 5th rounder at most, IMHO. And the Faiders eat some salary, maybe 50%. Then it's a win/win for all. If Carr blossoms, he gets a new contract in year 2-3. He he doesn't we hopefully have a young QB or two on a rookie contract.

We could bring Bridgewater back to do the same thing for less $.

I saw on Twitter that a lot of people are against sending a 3rd rounder. I actually think that's a steal for Carr. I'd do that and either draft Hooker in the 2nd or another developmental guy in the later rounds. Then I'd completely cut ties with Dalton and Jameis.

He'd be more than a bridge. He's WAY more talented than a Bridgewater and and is under contract through the end of 2025. At only 31 years old he easily has another eight years or so in his prime. If we are not willing to commit to him I'd just as soon pass on him altogether. This could be another Drew Brees type move and set us up at QB until 2030 or so.

I agree that a 3rd would be a steal for what could be a franchise QB for the next seven or eight years. Although, I'd pass on any earlier round QB and just pick up one later hoping we can get a backup type that may eventually develop into something more ... possibly future trade bait much like the Patriots did for years under Brady.

That's why you don't extend him until he proves it on the field .

The three years remaining on his current contract should give us plenty of time to see him prove it. Of course, things change if he gets cut.

Re: I'd like to try and get Derek Carr

Basically, it boils down to if we want Derek Carr we are either going to give up draft capital and/or spend in free agency. I'm not willing to spend money or invest high draft capital in him. Take that draft pick and find a quarterback or two on a rookie contract so we can get under the cap.
