The pursuit for Watson was evidence that the front office was trying to cleanup the QB wasteland that Sean Payton left the team in after his departure. No, I was not a Watson fan but feel strongly that you cannot compete in the modern day NFL without above average QB play. Saints were not the only team that held their nose and step into the fray, they were all in the same living QB purgatory.

If we don’t land Carr Saints prospects for landing a QB thru the draft is a very long shot/high risk play at best considering where we fall in the draft. Carr can be a bridge QB for the next 4 years which give us time to draft QB’s with the potential to be our future starting QB.

Moving money forward on exiting contracts does not cost the team 1 penny more, it’s like interest free money going forward knowing your future cash flow will cover and exceed your operating cost.

I suspect we will start seeing significant roaster turn and churn over the next 3 years, younger and cheaper throughout the roster.

Spend it this year or over the next 2 years you basically end up spending the same amount regardless how it’s accounted for.

Improvise, Adapt and Overcome.
Someone who understands cost accounting principles as it applies to the NFL cap. Thank you, WW!

Solid reasoning if you're in SB/playoff contention. Thereby lies the challenge and conundrum. Saints are nowhere close. So if you're going to suck anyway, spending future cap dollars ( deficit spending for those in Rio Linda) makes little sense. Go young and cut bait, develop talent, and clean up the cap.

With our defense, weapons at WR, and an offensive line that has the potential to be stellar, I believe we ARE in playoff AND Super Bowl contention with the right addition at QB (Carr would be a great fit) and a few pieces through free agency and the draft. The first step, the NFC South title, is well within reach as is.

I think we're contenders to be honest. Let's have a look at some of the QB's that were in the playoffs:

Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa got them there. They lost by 3 points to the Bills with Skylar Thompson at QB in the Wild Card round.

Seattle Seahawks: Geno Smith

New York Giants: Daniel Jones

Minnesota Vikings: Kirk Cousins

Baltimore Ravens: Tyler Huntley. One stupid fumble away from winning in the playoffs.

San Francisco 49ers: Brock Purdy

None of these guys are world beaters. 49ers almost went all the way with a 3rd stringer. It's all about health and can you go on a run.

We need to build the interior of this offensive line, grab Carr, and beef up at running back. Moves on the defensive side of the ball would be a nice cherry on top but I don't even think we have to if we can upgrade offensively.

Mayfield would be my 2nd choice behind Carr. Mayfield is a tough guy. I really don't want to draft a qb. in the 1st or 2nd round at least not this season. I get one with a 3rd or 4th and see how he develops.
