Here is a spotrac.com proposal for a Daniel Jones $40 million a year deal just to show the structure I proposed for Carr and the Saints. Note the low year one cap hit, but Jones would still get $52 million in cash in that first year with only $12.5M counting toward the cap. Subsequent years all carry a roster bonus that can be converted to a signing bonus and further prorated, if need be. That's the Harley/Loomis principle.

Welcome to the 21st century, Smash. Twenty short years ago the NFL team caps were $79 million. Today they are $224.8 million. By the end of the decade they'll be over $300 million. This is 2023, not 1993, which by the way predated the first cap in 1994 of $34.6 million.
The CBA mandates that the cap, which is tied to the revenues (mostly broadcast deals) must be applied. Ignore the numbers if they stress you so. The broadcast partners are the ones spending the money. |
