Besides him being the FAR superior QB, Brees told him it was his time, and the leaders of this team all seemed to allude to wanting Winston to be the starter. The “battle” was a waste of time. People on this forum aren’t enthusiastic about Winston because they don’t like him as a person. Some people reference 2019, but the likelihood of him ever throwing that many interceptions again isn’t very high at all. I’m more excited about this season than any of the ones we’ve had in a long time. We can finally be explosive again.
I'm not sure that it was exactly a waste of time. Because of his talent, Winston had been handed all of his previous QB positions in the past, with frankly uneven results. In this instance, he really had to demonstrate that he was worthy of the selection. In addition, by giving Taysom a true opportunity with demonstrated results to show that the position didn't belong to him. I think this is important for every stakeholder, especially Taysom-stans.

While a few will still bark that Taysom should be under center, the evidence is pretty clear. That gives Jameis the authority to lead the Saints in 2021, and hopefully into the next era of Saints football with confidence.

He had 121 TD's and almost 20,000 yards passing in his five years. Those are extremely good numbers on a poor team.
Suddenly? I think it for many reasons like staring down about every receiver against Jville. Won’t work against good defense. The guy can pass but it takes more than that to play QB. Hoping Our coaches have helped him bu I want to see it. Wishing him well- just don’t expect it.

I heard somewhere the other day that Winston lead all QBs in pre-season QBR. Not sure if it’s true or not, but take that for what you will.

I had not thought of that angle. I was impressed that he humbled himself and came here (or anywhere else), carried the clipboard, showed up, prepared, performed when asked, commanded the huddle, paid his dues, and whatever else. All that. And more from all accounts. But I had not considered how he was almost surely challenged with and motivated by the idea that this time he was going to have to pay the monthly note if he wanted the car. Can't blame him. He really is gifted enough to have never had to face that.

There are plenty of reasons to get behind Winston and pull hard for him. Sure sounds like his teammates are on board. Taysom will get another shot, probably somewhere else, and I'll pull for that guy too. I do believe this team will not regret letting Winston play. I am officially excited to watch him go out and prove a few things.

C'mon Man...
