Observation From the Saints' Loss to the Giants

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda...

This Giants team was close every week. And of course it had to be us to lose to them first.

Team loss, bad tackles, and SP got too cute a few times.

Any Given Sunday.

Don’t bring your A game, you will get beat.

Poor game plan, play calling and bad defensive performance from the Saints.

Giants are a Pro team too, never stop fighting.

This is two games Payton has called bad plays and not had his team ready to go.

That delay of game penalty was a killer also! Grrrrrrrrrrr!

Not kicking the FG early is an interesting development ... Didn't cost us the game , but it might have changed the dynamics of the game .

The real killer was the hold by Trautman. Took away a Stills TD off the board.

Not much to say about this team… they’ll be luck at 9-8.

Awful performance by the D with terrible zone coverage.
Offense was boring and poor play calling.

This team just isn’t good enough.

Re: Observation From the Saints' Loss to the Giants

LET JAMEIS SLING IT. We’re a .500 team playing cautious offense and we won’t be making a run at it anyway so let Jameis be a gunslinger.

Re: Observation From the Saints' Loss to the Giants

Can’t dominate first quarter and a half and not score till last minutes of the half. Offense should have put the game away. Winston threw into dirt several times and generally didn’t bring a spark. Kamara came to play but started to lose his edge till Hill’s play put a spark under him and others again. Harris looked good and offensive line played well. Winston had plenty of time to throw and couldn’t finish the game off either. Coach is only going to throw himself under the bus so many times.

Got absolutely nothing out of our pass rush, never hardly sniffed Jones let alone a sack. Which is pretty sad given how well we controlled the ball with the run and kept the defense rested. The pass rush sets the tone for the team. We lost our edge and the Giants gained confidence the longer the game went on. Peppers getting super excited after the Giants won the OT coin toss said it all.

True. Yet people want to give them a pass even though multiple first round picks were spent on the D line.

Re: Observation From the Saints' Loss to the Giants

Just watched the highlights and wow.

It feels like when they were up 21-10 they just stopped playing and felt that was the game. The game seemingly swung on the next drive.

Taysom gets stopped on 3rd and 2
35 yard punt return by Giants
50 Yard TD by Saquon
2 point conversion by Jones

The D had no answer, Adebo was horrendous and caused multiple coverage breakdowns as well as allowing every single throw to be completed on him.

Offense needs to do more in first half, but wow. How do you let an 0-3 team that had converted 2-7 3rd downs going into the 4th quarter, score 17 unanswered points and win in OT.

This Saints squad is not good.

I guess Payton will really be sticking it to the Buccaneers and Bruce Arians by fixing Jameis’ INT problem while we go 9-8 and they repeat as Super Bowl champs.

That would fit his ego to be honest.

9-8 might be pushing it though. This defense is nowhere near as good as people think it is. Both our wins appear to be more due to luck than skill.

Kicker would have come in and missed another long FG. Not as killer as Trautman’s holding/tackle penalty.

I feel like our D-Line’s dominance owes a lot to our LB’s lining up in the A gap. Teams are essentially running on a six man front.

When we have to rush four we have a very raw rookie DE, undrafted-caliber DT’s and Cam Jordan who offers very little in the pass rush department these days.

Still makes no sense that they pass on a 46 yard FG attempt yet try to make a 58 yarder. Payton called this game as poorly as can be called.

And maybe putting your TE to block the best defensive player without any help wasn't such a great plan either on that play.

It's mystifying. In the GB game we rushed four, sometimes even 3, and we were in Rodgers face all game regardless. Now this week we had home field advantage and the added advantage of crowd noise, yet had 0 sacks and very little hurries and allowed Jones to go for 400 yards on 40 attempts. I think the defense ate the cheese and thought the Giants would crumble because of the environment. The much derided Garrett also basically outcoached Payton. Gotta be careful who you make light of in this league.

Have to have some type of WR that at least causes concern for the opposing defense.

Payton has to stop with this predictable play calling and trying to be cute. That Taysom power on 3rd and short was a terrible play call and so was the pass play for Taysom right after Winton was really getting into a rhythm.

And the blitz packages were non effective. We need Davenport back soon. Very little pressure on Daniel all game.

If I remember correctly Ramcyzk was blocking air on that play. It may have been his missed assignment that led to the hold. I'm not sure. But you're right Trautman vs Williams is a mismatch.

Careful neugey, apparently it’s not possible for players to eat the cheese. Us fans Mentioning so is a No No.

If mentioning eating of cheese is off-limits, then I'm okay with saying that the Giants wanted it more than we did. Especially in the second half that's what I saw.

Last week a beat reporter asked CSP about Rosas and his response was “he’s been good”. Fast forward to today, he’s still missing fgs.

Rosas should have been cut after the Patriots game.

Not sure how long we’ll be without Lutz, but I would have been all over Verity weeks ago.

We gotta start Roby next week. Adebo was getting beat on almost every play that’s two weeks. Let him come in as a rotational guy for now and let a true and ready CB 2 play

Re: Observation From the Saints' Loss to the Giants

I’m tired of hearing about CSP’s motivational tactics. Buying yo yo’s, rat traps and all Dat mess. Stop it with all the foolishness. Call a good game, leave Jameis in the game and not disrupt his and the offense’s rhythm. Bringing Hill in with all these trick plays is bad, even when it works. Yes Taysom did score 2 TD’s today but Winston could have easily ran the offense and scored on designed plays. Stop it.

Re: Observation From the Saints' Loss to the Giants

They ran a couple plays we had a hard time with, and the more winded we became the more consistent they were with them. That's my armchair opinion. We really miss Thomas and Lutz. Get those guys back we win this game.

I'll be honest. Jameis looks to me a lot like Aaron Brooks when they started trying to make him play their way. Right or wrong he looked awkward. It just wasn't his game. I'm not comparing them as QBs, so everybody settle down. I just think, situationally, maybe there are some similarities.

Really I'm just trying to figure why we suck, cause we really suck right now.

Jason Garrett plays chess. This isn’t the first time he’s had success vs Sean Payton either. Play calling was BAD today. 3rd & 1 you have Taysom in the shot gun ? QB sneak that and let’s keep it moving. No need to be cute.

Credit J Judge/coaches and the Giants team. They over came a lot of injuries and walked away with a win on the road.

WFT won’t be a easy game.

Yeah it sure felt like being out coached was a big part of our problem. The whole vibe was weird. Even the crowd, loud when they were supposed to be, just didn't feel 'in' to it. Bad mojo. Something ain't right.

You’re exactly right, there was a point in the game where Jameis seemed to have the green light. And it was working. Then Taysom comes in and throws a badly under thrown, jump ball to a miniature punt returner.(Not knocking Harris)
I don’t see any other team in the league doing what we are with Taysom. Reason being, IT DOESN’T WORK.

We were on the Giant's side of the field at least 5 times in the 1st half, not to mention Alvin Kamara was not targeted in the passing attack. Callaway was a great deep pass-catcher. Get him involved more that way.

Taysom Hill is a great football player but IMO we are relying on him to do too much in this offense. Tony Jones Jr injury appears to be bad ... I'd utilize TH in the RB role going forward.

Dennis Allen needs to be called out too for not providing help to a struggling rookie (Adebo) 2nd half/OT.

Dumb challenges, kicking 55+ yarders, inability to call timeouts to avoid delay of game penalties, etc, etc.

After Sean and his coaching staff rewatch the game film, they need to call out themselves. All of the coaches sucked today.
