Re: Potentially Available QB's for 2023
Gardner Minshew proved himself to be mediocre.
Skylar Thompson just went 18 for 45 with Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle at WR. Andy Dalton is 35 years old and on the tail end of a career that was average at best. Stetson Bennett is another 5’11” QB that’s going to need Drew Brees level intellect and accuracy to work in the league. CJ Stroud is the top QB for me. Hendon Hooker is someone I’m very comfortable with us drafting. Jimmy Garoppolo can be a good placeholder. We could make a move for Carr. Without a new offensive coordinator it won’t matter. |

Even the great Sean Payton would have trouble keeping a drive alive with 3rd and 10 staring him in the face more often than not.
I must say, however, things started looking up the last four games with better utilization of both Kamara and Taysom. Not enough to save his ass as far as I'm concerned, but improvement nonetheless. Hard no on Thompson, Minshew, AND Dalton, as well. |

Re: Potentially Available QB's for 2023
The pursuit of Watson showed this franchise is intent on fixing the QB of the future.
The move away from Jameis shows he's not in the plans. Sticking with Dalton signals he'll be here next year as the bridge. Guys, I don't think any fringe-starter QBs are in the mix. I think it's either 1. Big name QB (ala lamar) or 2. Drafting a QB top 10 |

We could wait a few years for Manning to declare. But that would mean we need to bring in a solid veteran quarterback to hold down the fort for the next few years.

What this could like is using all our cap to clear bad contracts and aging players not add new ones, move Peat, Thomas, Hill, Maye, Kamara, etc, trade our current draft picks for future year draft picks such as other teams 1st rounders the year Manning will come out, and go with a very risky young QB where we could hit the lottery but probably we will lose a ton of games, such as Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, or Jordan Love.
I am not saying it has to happen this way. We could give 100% in 2023-2025 and just have a lot of bad injuries in 2025, but if we find a solid QB and win 8 games in 2025 we are not getting Arch Manning unless we own the right other teams 1st round pick before the draft. Almost no team would trade that pick away, and if one would, the price would be dehabilitating. Another approach is to hand the reigns to very risky but high upside young QBs from the late 1st round or second day in 2023-2025. If we find the next Lamar Jackson or Jalen Hurts then great. If we don't we might get Manning or another very high draft pick QB. If we settle for a solid known ok veteran QB we don't have the upside of the next Jackson or of the next Manning. |
