Re: Michael Thomas agrees to restructured contract

If Thomas can be healthy and effective on all the underneath stuff and we get one of the TEs to really break out (JJ I'm looking at you) then Olave and Shaheed should be able to take the top off.
All of a sudden that opens up loads of posibilities, makes it much harder for defences to try and make us one dimensional. Running lanes should be easier to get by.
I really really hope he is past his injury problems now, our O would be so much better for it.

This could easily be the quote of the day. MT could bring things together nicely this year. They will have to double Thomas or Olave which leaves the rest of the WR's, TE's and RB's to do the damage to their defense. Pick your poison!

Re: Michael Thomas agrees to restructured contract

Till Mike got the big contract I was a fan. He was intense, loyal, determined...all the things you want in a teammate and team hero. Put up phenomenal numbers and put on phenomenal performances. Then he got paid...and hurt. That's when it felt like he became a Diva. His attitude seemed in a minor way to reflect his uncle (at least to me). Admitting that all facts are not known to me I will not say he faked or exaggerated his injuries but at times it felt like it. These things brought criticism from some.
Now it appears he has found his way back to his old attitude. Maybe he never lost it. Most of us will never know. Mike at his best was truly phenomenal, hopefully we get to see his best of whatever he's got left. Personally optimistic. Show us Mike! Make us Proud!

Sorry, but I don't get the "diva" crap claimed about Thomas. Name one thing that he ever did or said that could be defined as being a diva. Seriously. Just one thing. Keep in mind that "divas" are defined by a ongoing pattern of publicly drawing attention to themselves and being demanding.

Guido,

I'm not sure why you continue wasting your breath arguing with folks over this issue. There are subset of Saints fans who will never be satisfied until they see the 2nd coming of Marcus Colston: Just shows up to work, always available to play, consistently produces, and stays completely humble at all times.

Colston's health was generally lucky. And the rest is just the guy personality. And it's clear there are folks that do not like MT13's personality. They don't like brash on social media. They especially dislike everything about the injuries and the handling of them over the last 3 years. They don't like the lack of production. And they don't like the huge, completely in the market, contract that MT13 received.

So, you hear it from the in the terms: "soft" "broken" "diva" "not a team player" "overpaid" "needs to be traded". The list goes on and on and on and on.

Arguing with them isn't going change their minds about this any more than arguing with you is going to change your mind.

MT13 doesn't need to be defended. He's still likely to end up as the best receiver in Saints history. What we all need to hope for is just a little luck and the avoidance of the injury bug.

Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.

I get everything except for the diva part. The guy almost always appears as quiet, respectful, and unassuming in all interviews. 99.9% of his tweets are song lyrics or praising other athletes.

Don't know how to upload- maybe someone else will. See CBS article:
titled:
" Michael Thomas breaks silence on suspension for punching Saints teammate prior to week 6"

Here is one small piece of article:
" Thomas also was said to be talking back to coaches, including head coach Sean Payton." the article goes on about his suspension.

Seems like diva behavior to me.

Look I wasn't out to hurt the guy. THOUGHT MY POST WAS GIVING HIM PROPS to get past his past transgressionS. Evidently some never thought this was a problem. Others as evidenced by posts following yours did.

Yes. You identified the one and only time that Thomas lost his cool to the best of my knowledge. The incident did include arguing with coaches. Gardner-Johnson was reportedly hounding him to the point he blew his cool and retaliated. He wasn't the first player to have this happen to him in practice and won't be the last. The team obviously had to teach him a lesson to hold that temper. It seems to have worked well. But, I still don't see where this lone incident defines him as a diva when there are no indications anywhere else.

By the way, here's the link to that CBS article.

Michael Thomas breaks silence on suspension for punching Saints teammate prior to Week 6

Something else to keep in mind. As the article also points out, Thomas was trying to play through the injury at the time which had to have been weighing pretty heavily on his mind. It's no excuse for blowing his top, but it does add a bit of background to the whole incident.

Also from the article ...

"I've spoken with Mike [ Thomas]," Drew Brees told reporters following New Orleans' overtime win over the Chargers on Monday night. "Mike and I talk a lot, both in person and in the locker room, through text message. We're always communicating. And so, at the end of the day, Mike is a big part of this team. And he is going to be a big part of this team moving forward. We had an incident, and Sean (Payton) addressed it. And many of the leaders have spoken with Mike as well. And we're going to be all good."

Keep in mind, also, this was after the whole supposed deal between Thomas and Brees.

“The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” — Winston Churchill

Over time Mike seems to be disproving the former narrative pretty soundly.

At this point, if you're rooting against him, it's your own personal issue.
