I like Jameis Winston. He seems to be a good team player but he is not the future. At least not for Dennis Allen who benched him last year and never put him back in the game. He sounds like a post June 1 cut.

I agree, but only if they have an option other than Dalton. We'll see what they do.

Re: What should the Saints’ plan be to upgrade at QB?
I don't believe that Winston was ever "benched" last season. He was sat because of the injuries. He was never back to 100% last year from what I have read. Allen probably felt that Dalton wasn't playing poor enough to reinsert a 75% Winston back into the lineup. I feel like a fully ready Winston is far more dangerous than a healthy Dalton. If we can't bring in Carr I hope we run with Winston until we can find something longer term in the draft.

Re: What should the Saints’ plan be to upgrade at QB?
In the 'Options I Really Don't Want' category anyone who can read between the tea leaves may notice that with the Rams cutting Wagner and shopping Ramsey they may be in rebuild mode and this brings up questions about Matt Stafford. If we are stupid enough to have made a top offer for Deshaun Watson and to consider trading for Derek Carr or perhaps offering him upwards of $30 million, it is scary to consider what might happen if Matt Stafford hits the market and we are looking for a consolation prize.
I really hope we draft a young QB without a costly blockbuster trade and try to develop a QB. I don't want the post-Brees Saints to become the post-Manning/Luck Colts and keep convincing themselves a bunch of washed vets have more left in the tank than they do. |

He just didn't keep his word.
