Super Bowl. No seriously, Super Bowl.
I can’t really say why because a ton of crossed fingers and if’s would be involved.

The only thing missing from the word rap is the letter C.

90% of what Thomas tweets are song lyrics and/or titles. And I believe the genre is hip hop. Someone younger out there could verify, I hope. :D

Easy now, Rugs. Our good friend, rezburna, is a very accomplished hip hop artist and his stuff could be called "the sh!t", but certainly not crap. :D ;)

All do respect, he hasn’t proved anyone wrong in a couple years. Except for maybe proving the people wrong that actually thought he was going to get back on the field.

He’s probably gone after this next season regardless if he contributes or not. Draft his replacement and move on after 2023. The guy is an annoying Diva that postures on his previous accomplishments. It’s like listening to a 40 year old talk about how good of a player they were in high school. I’m 45 btw. And I was awesome. Lol.

Hey Mike stop the stupid ass tweets and go out and play and show everyone.

If I'm not mistaken Thomas proved people wrong by getting back on the field at the beginning of last season and balled out scoring THREE TD's in his first two games back before suffering the season ending dislocation and ligament damage requiring surgery. This injury was totally unrelated to the ankle on the opposite leg.

I agree with you on the point that he’s gone after this year regardless. The only way I see him possibly sticking around for maybe another year or two given he’s healthy is if him and Carr have amazing chemistry. I didn’t even realize till yesterday that the dude is already 30 😳

Turned 30 12 days ago. As many like to point out he has not seen much wear and tear over the last three years on that 30 year old body.

I expect Michael Thomas to remain with the Saints at least a decade being paid as a #1 receiver as long as Mickey Loomis is still around. There are 170 games in the next decade. Thomas can play about 25. But on a year by year basis it will always be smart to keep him because restructuring will allow a smaller cap hit than cutting him, and Mickey Loomis does not make decisions on anything but a 1 year basis, because the liver doctor won't guarantee any longer. And each year we keep him, the restructure will defer guaranteed money to future years, making cheaper to keep him the next offseason than to cut him. This is how Michael Thomas will make $5-10 million per TD with the Saints the next decade.

I actually like quite a bit of rap. I'm listening to Chris Webby singing faded with a stranger right now. Check it out. It's crazy man. :smokin:

The letter C is from an old joke. I have deep respect for Rez and would like to hear some of his music.

Re: Can't Guard Mike

From the article ...

"So they’re clearly hoping he and Derek Carr play well together in 2023, making the decision easier in 2024. Thomas is betting on his health in a huge way. Triplett added that he’ll receive contract incentives for being healthy and active each week as well as more bonuses tied to his performance, team accomplishments, and postseason honors ..."

A long list of incentives are detailed in the article including per game played, reception totals, TD's scored, Pro-Bowl and All-Pro designations, post-season appearances, MVP recognitions, and a Super Bowl victory.

It adds that the first step is passing his physical on April 21st.

I sure hope we all want him to hit all of those incentive levels. (Undoubtedly some haters will not to the detriment of the Saints success.)

Re: Can't Guard Mike

Mike Thomas was totally betting on himself by taking $10 million guaranteed and up to $5 million in additional incentives, when any other sane team would have guaranteed him only like $4-6 million given his injury history. He was betting on himself to have a pulse. A lot of other players who have not been healthy for 3 years would love to bet on themselves with $10 million guaranteed, the incentives are just icing on the cake but its still a great contract for Mike even if he doesn't earn $1 in incentives.

Draft his eventual replacement.

No one knows his status at the moment except Mike. He's an older player, ankle & toe injuries are tricky & the body doesn't recover as fast + he hasn't played organized football in some time.

It is what it is.

Shaheed, Bryan and some of the other guys could use those reps anyhow.

So much depends on health. This guy Edwards we just signed apparently has the size and skills, but had setback. I watched a highlight clip of him in the NFL and he makes some really good catches. But you are correct in saying new guys are needed through draft/UDFA.

It's past time to draft his replacement. He's played ten games in three years! He used to be the man but we can't count on him anymore. He's got the heart but not the health we need.

I don't think even Mike knows if he's healthy anymore.

Bryan could use the reps and it looks like he will get them with the Saints easing MT back into practice. Slowly getting additional reps until he's ready. Fingers crossed.

K Major 03-28-2023 12:07 PM

Re: Can't Guard Mike

Healthy or not, draft another WR.

There will be games in 2023 where our #1WR gets locked down & other guys have to make plays and move the chains.

That Dallas game up here from a few years ago comes to mind. Once they (Marinelli & Kris Richard) game planned & put the clamps on MT, it was a wrap. No one else could make a play.

Yep, there is always the draft.

I'm sure he'll be aware of whether or not his toe is working, Rugs. :D The ankle on the opposite leg was already fully healed and is no longer an issue at all. I know of no other injuries of which anyone would be concerned.

As Sigler points out here if Thomas wasn't on track to be back and healthy the Saints wouldn't have brought him back.
