Pennings been in the system a year and even if you count year 1 as a red shirt he's had enough reps to produce like an impact player and show he's worth the pick.
We should just start trading away our first and second round picks for multiple third round picks. We seem to do better there. We need him to be available and dialed in, not a rough project. There's enough incontinuity along the line as it is. Not much room for another weak link.
Hey at least our Oline won't be as bad as the Panthers. You want to see a suckfest, that's it. Young is doomed.

Maybe we should stop picking linemen in the first round. Our success rate is fairly questionable picking the big uglies in the first. However, I have to say that we do a fine job drafting in the second round. Michael Thomas, Taylor, and McCoy say hi! BTW We've got two second round picks next year. Championship! :p

We might should have taken Pickett.

Over whom? He is playing against the Falcons' 2nd and 3rd string defenses.

Penning. He looks poised for a big year. Tomlin and the Steelers have a great system in place. His weapons are excellent too. They might come out of the AFC.

Trade Lutz to Denver for a 2024 draft pick.

Was never all that impressed. He made some long kicks but his short game is average.

I would trade Lutz for a late pick. Kickers are a crapshoot and better to pay less for one. You don't get rid of a rock solid kicker when you are hoping to contend but Lutz isn't rock solid and I don't see us beating Maholmes or Hurts, etc. Might as well get the pick and save cash. Part of the compensation would be to account that we are effectively paying much of Lutz's salary since much of his cap hit this year is a roster bonus we already paid so he will be cheap for Denver.

I honestly wish Haener was our starting QB. I don't know that we would have less upside, cause like what if he is good? But we could also be healing our salary cap and prepared to add a lot of weapons next year if he is good. And if not, we would have a high pick and a salary cap that is not tied down.

I agree. Thing is, kickers can win or lose games for you. And as far as I’m concerned, having a stable and reliable kicker is key to winning close games. If both teams can’t win it in the trenches and they’re pretty evenly matched, the kicker may be the only thing going for you.

I don’t like the feeling of a kicker walking out there and feeling like someone punched me in the gut.

I certainly don’t get Morton Anderson vibes from Lutz. But he’s better than a lot of kickers in the league and I feel pretty confident when he walks out there.

I do miss the days of Anderson walking out and I could literally get up and go get a beer or take a leak because I knew that was pretty much automatic. Lol.

Who knows? Grupe might allow you a few more relaxed nature breaks. But I wouldn't count on it.
