In general I think if you have an elite franchise QB its best to try to win it all with them not use high value picks for a long term replacement plan. There is no evidence that drafting a QB of the future before your elite QB of the present leaves the building accomplishes anything more than running out the priors rookie contract sooner. It happened to work out for the Packers but for example the Texans had an elite QB in Watson, waited until he was gone, then drafted an elite QB in Stroud, and they get Stroud cheaper for longer at a younger age to start winning sooner. |
