Don't forget Payton didn't want to live in New Orleans after seeing what Katrina had left him. He wanted to stay in "BIG D" and commute. Everything he did FOR THE SAINTS left the front office looking backward after he departed and didn't see the cliff he had steered the team toward prior to his "retirement" .

As for all the coaches and former players who went with him. They are now the O in the BRONCO REAR END AKA, Sean PaytOn!
I read somewhere the SP wanted to come back after he ended his retirement and the FO said no and it pissed him off. Idk if that’s true or not. But I definitely read it somewhere.

This team, even with a JV O-line, was competitive in many games. In fact, if the one-score games go their way, they could have finished the regular season as good as 11-6.
The problem with Carr was not his skill set. He was a decent QB. He was just an awful leader. He didn’t take any accountability or responsibility for bad decisions. He was not good in the face of adversity. By no fault of his own, he was also paid an enormous amount of money and didn’t live up to it.

People like Carr believe that if they do their best, it’s because of them that the team wins. And it’s because of someone else that the team loses. It’s never his fault. In other words, he’s a good leader when the team is winning. But that’s it.
