Continuing to spend money on Brooks would be a waste. Putting it toward Leinart, would not be.
Leinart may not be a proven NFL commodity, yet. But Brooks has proven that he is not. Even when, by all accounts, he has one of the most talented teams on paper around him. Just think of all the opportunity that we have already wasted. |

Good point mjf but...funny thing about our players on paper....they managed to lead the league in dropped passes. Have we been lied to about the talent we possess? And why would it not be a bad idea to cough up millions to Lienart? We could use that money to sign successful FA's

Nothing in the NFL is guaranteed, including signing "successful FA's". Ask Buffalo how the Bledsoe experiment went? Or the Saints about Kerry Collins? Or talk to the Browns about Garcia? Ironically, none of the potential FA QB's have really proven themselves on their former team as much as the one's I named. In fact, there have probably been just as many cases of FA busts as Draft busts.
As far as "dropped passes", that can be as much as Brooks' fault as the recievers. There are only so many "shoe-string-catches" and "diving-grabs" that can be expected of a WR. |

You are lucky I dig your avatar mjf. LOL. I do know that most of those dropped passes were in fact....right in the numbers/hands type. <Sigh>....this is getting frustrating...I think I'm gonna be a Falcons fan this year. (Make sure I get shot first before that happens though...Thanx!)

Maybe alot of the balls were in the numbers/hands, but if your QB doesn't know that your not supposed to throw a 90 mph fast ball on a 5 yard pass, it would make the ball awful hard to complete. There in lies just part of the problem, AB doesn't have the ability to know the difference. Honestly, how many times have you watched him throw a pass and thought to yourself, "Damn, he put way too much on that ball!"?

there are teams desperate enough to take a chance on AB...Vikes, Jets, Fins....I think that Saban will try to jump up in the draft and get Cutler or even high enough to get Young...The qb market is going to be big this year...I hope we can get something for AB...

Now, I am NOT saying that the WR's and the TE's don't drop balls, because they all do... but the way Brooks throws a pass, I tend to give more credit to the WR's for catching them than for Brooks throwing them... ... besides, what else can Payton do? Assure him he cannot lose his job unless he dies? Already tried, didn't work Cut the playbook in half? Already tried, didn't work. Simplify the play calling? Already tried, didn't work. Leadership classes? Already tried, didn't work. Find escape goats? Already tried, didn't work. Give it more time? Ain't 6 years enough? Think about this: Brooks was Mike McCarthy's project. It was McCarthy who convinced Holmgren to draft Brooks in Green bay. It was McCarthy who convinced Mueller to bring in Brooks. It was McCarthy who convinced Haslett Brooks was "QB-2A" even before Brooks set foot in the State of Louisiana. Don't you think that Mike McCarthy did everything in his power to make Brooks succeed? .. actually, the only thing that I can think of that has not been tried, is bringing in competition for the starting QB spot.... now that's an idea... and I am sure, should the Saints draft Leinart, that Leinart would win that battle.... ... |

Hey T-R, I really need an escape goat. Where can I get one?!!! lol! I gotta create an Icon for that....
I'm with you on the assessment of dropped passes. ZH was credited with a dropped pass in the end zone against da bears that he had to literally jump as high as he could just to graze the ball with his middle finger - he was wide open and stationary. It's a shame that there's even a solitary erg of momentum for keeping that dumb bastard AB. |
