What I am talking about is a 6 LB 6 CB split. Glenn or Craft are goners(and honestly do you get excited about either one?) and Mitchell would be the guy I would like to see more of. I still only see 2 studs in that LB group and no superstar, although I would argue Fujita and Vilma can be superstars in our new defense.

Re: 86-man Minicamp Depth Chart

WLB
4. 58 Shanle, Scott LB 6-2 245 28 6 Nebraska
6. 54 Evans, Troy LB 6-3 238 30 7 Cincinnati

MLB
1. 51 Vilma, Jonathan LB 6-1 230 26 5 Miami (Fla.)
2. 52 Morgan, Dan LB 6-2 245 29 8 Miami (Fla.)
7. 50 Mitchell, Marvin LB 6-3 249 23 2 Tennessee

SLB
3. 55 Fujita, Scott LB 6-5 250 29 7 California
5. 53 Simoneau, Mark LB 6-0 245 31 9 Kansas State

Just looking at the line up I see the only battles this year at
SLB back up

5. 53 Simoneau, Mark LB 6-0 245 31 9 Kansas State
Vs.
8. 59 Sanders, Luke LB 6-5 242 23 R Louisiana State

MLB backup
7. 50 Mitchell, Marvin LB 6-3 249 23 2 Tennessee
Vs.
9. 56 Dunbar, JoLonn LB 6-0 226 23 R Boston College

At CB
#1
5. 42 David, Jason CB 5-8 180 25 5 Washington State

#2
2. 20 Gay, Randall CB 5-11 190 26 5 Louisiana State
1. 34 McKenzie, Mike CB 6-0 194 32 10 Memphis (PUP)

#3
21 Craft, Jason CB 5-10 187 32 10 Colorado State

#4
4. 28 Young, Usama CB 6-0 200 23 2 Kent State

3. 22 Porter, Tracy CB 5-11 186 21 R Indiana

7. 31 Glenn, Aaron CB 5-9 183 35 15 Texas A&M
My money goes with the Vet. saints are creatures of habit.

PS
8. 36 Phillips, Anwar CB 6-0 187 25 1 Penn State
9. 32 Fassitt, Greg CB 5-11 186 23 1 Grambling State

Now you have the battle for the last roster spot. M&M will probably start the season on the PUP list. You have to love the big change in age.

In 2009 M&M, Craft and David will be in danger.

3. 22 Porter, Tracy CB 5-11 186 21 R Indiana
#2
2. 20 Gay, Randall CB 5-11 190 26 5 Louisiana State
#3
28 Young, Usama CB 6-0 200 23 2 Kent State
#4
1. 34 McKenzie, Mike CB 6-0 194 32 10 Memphis (PUP)
5. 42 David, Jason CB 5-8 180 25 5 Washington State
21 Craft, Jason CB 5-10 187 32 10 Colorado State

Another top 3 pick at CB/S in the draft will be needed. Vet in FA that can do both?

It will take another year of FA and drafts to finish this off. Well Almost. But I see the saints adding an extra LB to the roster till Vilma is set.

Re: 86-man Minicamp Depth Chart

Nicely done Hagan. Your lineup looks pretty likely to me. There is still time to add a few players (especially when the first cuts come). I still hope we can get another Safety and maybe another DE and/or LB to push some of our more marginal players.

There's no way we're going to keep 7 CBs and/or 6 LBs.

I'd guess also there is no way that Kendrick Clancy won't make the team. There is just too much need for a rotation on the DL, unlike in the CBs. Unless one of the 7 CBs is going to return kicks, one more of them (from the list Hagan gave) will be gone - I'd guess one of Craft, Young or Porter at this point.

Unless Morgan gets hurt in preseason or training camp, I think Hagan's got those right. Also, I don't see Simoneau starting at SLB (at least not in the base package); he just isn't good enough against the run to be expected to taken on the TE too.

Also, I actually think we look pretty weak at C. We ran a lot in the middle last year, and I'm not sure we'll get what we want with a new C (whether Nesbit, Goodwin, or Lehr). That, IMO is the weak link on Offense right now. Defense is another story...

Really? I have to see it to believe it. The injury happened way to late in the season. History is against a come back that quick. Besides I left a window of optimism there.

M&M will probably start the season on the PUP list.

i agree...i think that usama fits our system too well to cut him and i doubt they will cut our 2nd overall draft pick....i dont think that mike will start the beginning of the season tho....his injury is tough to come back from...i say mid-season he is back to starting

I don't think you will see Simoneau in a Saints jersey this year. Age and quickness issues for a Weak Outside Backer. Look for Sanders and Dunbar to compete for that spot. Vilma in the middle (Morgan back-up) and Fujita on the Strong side (Shanle back-up unless Mitchell out of Tenn. can bump him).

Just my opinion

Do you remember a guy named Peterson last year drafted 2nd round that a rookie free agent beat out of a spot on the roster. Do not think for one second that Peyton will not cut a second or even first rounder if he does not perform.
