Re: 86-man Minicamp Depth Chart

It seems the exact opposite point could be made from the bold: proven players with experience.

Craft played much better in at NB than on the corner, I agree. However, when you have to make tough choices, I don't see being a good nickle is a very strong argument.

It will be interesting to see how camp shakes this out. Some of these guys may just be over the hill, as has been suggested, other players may find that physical gifts aren't enough to overcome experience.

sorry but 2@32 and one at 35 is just a bit too much experience. Keep one maaaaybe 2 at the most. Go with youth. what can it hurt? We drop in pass defense rating? Well the bottom is not that far away. So hitting bottom wont hurt that much.
I think the addition of Gay makes this move to youth possible.

Re: 86-man Minicamp Depth Chart

Fair enough.

I'm just not sold on the idea that younger is better. Many of our best corners have been guys we've picked up in the second half of their career. I'm not in anyway opposed to getting proven players.

Don't get me wrong, I hope all of you are right and Young, Porter, et. al. are the greatest thing to happen to our secondary. I'm just skeptical as of now (I know, that is a rarity). Let's see what we think after (at least) mini-camp?

I say drop Simenaou and Aaron glenn and add marvin mitchell and jolonn dunbar.

That would even out corner and lb, which would seem more accurate, great job on the rest though!

Simenaou is a keeper. He can back up more than one position. Glenn I am up in the air about. let marvin mitchell and jolonn dunbar battle it out for the depth chart.

4. 97 Geathers, Jeremy DE 6-2 245 21 R UNLV

I am fairly certain that his chance will not be at DE, but instead as a OLB used on passing downs as a pass rusher. He is way too small for a DE.

Re: 86-man Minicamp Depth Chart

That is an interesting idea. Does he have any experience at LB?

Certainly, he's not going to start. I also don't see us taking Fugita and/or Vilma off the field on passing downs, so I don't think he'd see much playing time.

How is he on special teams?

Re: 86-man Minicamp Depth Chart

I agree with you JKool.

Really what did Usama Young do last year that was sooooo amazing. I for one am not on the bandwagon. He has to prove to me on the field that he is a playmaker before I become a fan. I think too many people are high on him just because of where he was drafted. I saw the same thing with Josh Bullocks (who always sucked, not just last year) after his first couple years.

Also I agree that Jason Craft was our best CB last year other than McKenzie. Craft made a lot of plays on the ball. Was in good position more often than not. If he does that again he makes the team. I really don't see Aaron Glenn making this team. I lived in Houston and have season tickets to the lowly Texans (still a Saints fan first forever) and Glenn was absolutely horrible his last year with the team, which is why the Texans got rid of him.

Also every year there are a few late round/rookie free agent pickups that everyone is really high on before we even see them play. This year it looks like its Arrington and JoLonn. I am skeptical, just because there was a reason that they lasted that long. From what I have read Arrington is not that fast. I'm not saying I'm not optimistic; I just feel like we have little reason to be predicting that JoLonn Dunbar, an undersized undrafted free agent, will be making the team over Simoneau. While I am not the biggest Simoneau fan, I still do not think there is much of a chance that he is beaten out by an rookie free agent, that hasn't played a snap of professional football yet. We'll see how it plays out in training camp and preseason. GEAUX SAINTS!

Re: 86-man Minicamp Depth Chart

Here's my picks:

1. 9 Brees, Drew QB 6-0 209 29 8 Purdue
2. 3 Palko, Tyler QB 6-1 215 24 1 Pittsburgh

We've gone with just two QBs on the roster in the past. We have a lot of talent on this team and I can see Payton doing it again. I'm gonna go with the young lefty Payton has been grooming to upset old fogey Brunell. Lets not kid ourselves. If Brees goes down we're done anyways

3. 26 McAllister, Deuce RB 6-1 232 29 8 Mississippi
4. 25 Bush, Reggie RB 6-0 203 23 3 Southern California
5. 23 Thomas, Pierre RB 5-11 215 23 2 Illinois
6. 27 Stecker, Aaron RB 5-10 213 32 9 Western Illinois

7. 44 Karney, Mike FB 5-11 255 26 5 Arizona State

8. 70 Brown, Jammal T 6-6 313 27 4 Oklahoma
9. 78 Stinchcomb, Jon T 6-5 315 28 6 Georgia
10. 73 Evans, Jahri G 6-4 318 24 3 Bloomsburg
11. 67 Nesbit, Jamar G 6-4 328 31 10 South Carolina
12. 76 Goodwin, Jonathan C/G 6-3 318 29 7 Michigan
13. 64 Strief, Zach T 6-7 320 24 3 Northwestern
14. 65 Alleman, Andy G 6-4 310 24 2 Akron
15. 77 Nicks, Carl T/G 6-5 343 25 R Nebraska

I am gonna say right now that Bushrod will be the odd man out because I have to admit that as much as I try to not be swayed by the hype, I am drinking the Carl Nicks Kool-Aid. That being said if Alleman has a bad preseason I could see Lehr beating him out for backup center. This is a good unit and some good players are gonna have to get cut.

16. 82 Johnson, Eric TE 6-3 252 28 8 Yale
17. 83 Miller, Billy TE 6-3 252 31 9 Southern California
18. 80 Campbell, Mark TE 6-6 260 32 10 Michigan
19. 85 Ghent, Ronnie TE 6-2 253 28 2 Louisville

I just think Ghent has proven that he is a solid blocker and excellent special teams player. If Campbell doesn't come back 100% he will be out of a job. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt right now because I really like liked him before the injury.

20. 12 Colston, Marques WR 6-4 225 24 3 Hofstra
21. 81 Patten, David WR 5-10 190 33 12 Western Carolina
22. 17 Meachem, Robert WR 6-2 210 23 2 Tennessee
23. 19 Henderson, Devery WR 5-11 200 26 5 Louisiana State
24. 16 Moore, Lance WR 5-9 190 24 3 Toledo
25. 18 Copper, Terrance WR 6-0 207 26 5 East Carolina

I left out Arrington because as I said before, I haven't seen him play in the NFL yet. So as of right now I don't see him beating out proven veterans like Moore and Copper. I actually think that if Arrington beats out anyone, it will be Moore, because of Coppers value on special teams.

26. 90 Ellis, Sedrick DT 6-1 307 22 R Southern California
27. 66 Young, Brian DT 6-2 298 30 9 UTEP
28. 99 Thomas, Hollis DT 6-0 335 34 13 Northern Illinois
29. 72 Pressley, DeMario DT 6-3 301 22 R North Carolina State

I never really thought Clancy or Lake were really that good, so I say the rook beats em out.

30. 91 Smith, Will DE 6-3 282 26 5 Ohio State
31. 94 Grant, Charles DE 6-3 285 29 7 Georgia
32. 93 McCray, Bobby DE 6-6 260 26 5 Florida
33. TBD

No way we keep a 240 lb DE on the roster. We will definitely make a move.

34. 51 Vilma, Jonathan LB 6-1 230 26 5 Miami (Fla.)
35. 55 Fujita, Scott LB 6-5 250 29 7 California
36. 58 Shanle, Scott LB 6-2 245 28 6 Nebraska
37. 53 Simoneau, Mark LB 6-0 245 31 9 Kansas State
38. 54 Evans, Troy LB 6-3 238 30 7 Cincinnati
39. 50 Mitchell, Marvin LB 6-3 249 23 2 Tennessee

My personal prediction is that Dan "Captain Injury" Morgan gets hurt in training camp and finally decides to make the right decision and retires. The end of that fiasco. I would still love to have replace Shanle as a starter. I don't think that he's is awful, but the position could definitely be upgraded.

40. 41 Harper, Roman S 6-1 200 25 3 Alabama
41. 43 Kaesviharn, Kevin S 6-1 200 31 8 Augustana (S.D.)
42. 39 Reis, Chris S 6-1 215 24 2 Georgia Tech
43. TBD

I personally think that Josh Bullocks is the biggest piece of s$%& on our team. Worse than Jason David, Simoneau, the late Olindo Mare. The only player in reacent history I thought was more useless was Courney Watson. This is just wishful thinking. I have this horrible feeling that for some godforsaken reason he will be starting over KK again. God he's awful. There is not one thing I can think of that he does well. NOT ONE!

44. 34 McKenzie, Mike CB 6-0 194 32 10 Memphis
45. 20 Gay, Randall CB 5-11 190 26 5 Louisiana State
46. 22 Porter, Tracy CB 5-11 186 21 R Indiana
47. 28 Young, Usama CB 6-0 200 23 2 Kent State
48. 42 David, Jason CB 5-8 180 25 5 Washington State
49. 21 Craft, Jason CB 5-10 187 32 10 Colorado State

No Aaron Glenn. As I stated in my previous post, he is WAAAY over the hill. Doesn't make it out of training camp. M&M will probably begin the season on the PUP list. I say that either we pick up another CB in free agency or maybe one of the WRs makes the team. Maybe current fan fave Arrington. YO ADRIAN!

50. 1 Gramatica, MartÃ*n K 5-8 170 32 9 Kansas State

Gramatica looked great last year. I was as surprised as you were. What I've read of the rook is that he is inconsistent on long field goals.

51. 7 Weatherford, Steve P 6-3 215 25 3 Illinois

52. 47 Houser, Kevin LS 6-2 252 30 9 Ohio State

Most consistent player on the team.

Feel free to give me feedback.
