Still, as much as I'd like to support the experienced veteran (who is normally a model for consistency), I can't help but wonder if we are bracing ourselves for the second coming of Martin Erratica....I am still scarred heavily from the Viking and Bronco games last year.

The difference is Carney does one thing and one thing only: kick FGs.
He doesn't have to read defenses, or coverages, or be aware of the pass rush, etc etc etc etc. He just kicks FGs.

trying to argue this is weird because its true.....kickers only have one job....but they get far less opportunities to do that one job

if drew makes a mistake, he gets 20 to 30 more chances to make up for it.......kickers may only get 1 shot at it

because of that, i think kicking is one of the most difficult jobs in the NFL.....you are expected to do your 1 job and if you miss once, you are a failure.....how many other positions in ANY sport only get 1 opportunity to do their job correctly?.......off the top of my head, i cant think of any

i think part of the criticism of kickers is completely justified.....but on the other hand, how much of it is unwarranted?

kickers rarely get credit for being able to do their job, but always get ripped for not being able to do their job

Yeah give the Kid his job back. It will also free up a roster spot too.

I've been a fan of Hartley since he came in last year. We need for him to keep nailing his field goals and stay consistent. Let's hope he's the next coming of Morten Andersen.

If we haven't used Hartley there is a reason for it. Elam missed 2 as well...maybe the holders farted.

LOL!

Nah. I think while Carney was in forward motion, dropping his leg down for the kick, he farted. The natural swing and rotation of the body created a vortex, therefore pulling the stench of the fart toward Carney's face.

The vortex was created with such force that the farty air hit Carney in the face like he actually had his head next to his own ass. The smell was so pungent and sulfuric, it went directly to Carney's nerves, creating a nerve "shiver", which consequently made his leg twitch and the FG was missed.

In a fart shell, I mean a nut shell; that's what happened.

.. or maybe Elam is not as good as he was after 17 years in the NFL?

So far, Carney has attempted 11 field goals, and he's missed 3, with 2 of those 3 in the 30-39 yard range. Because the team has been scoring a lot of points and end up winning games, no one has really made a stink about it - well, I have . Monday was the first time those 3 points could've made a difference since the score was so close.

I guess everyone remembers the Jacksonville game, and Carney missing that XP, and a lot of people think that put the Saints out of the playoffs that year, which isn't true. BUT, the one I remember, is the missed field goal in the 2006 NFC championship game, with the score 14-17. The missed field goal gave the Bears good field position, they went on to score, and the Saints never recovered.

Look, nothing against the man, but he's 45, and he's missing some cheap shots.
