Time for a bit of reality
While watching that demolition, it occurred to me that we are one missed blocking assignment from being in the same boat as the Colts.
The Irsay management team have gone all in on Manning, giving him a $100 million contract and leaving no room for much else. That team has no depth, no balance and no future. It will be 3-5 years before they can claim enough parts, train enough and establish an identity that can compete at a playoff level. I'm not going to say that Brees isn't worth $100 million. I am saying we got a huge look through the crystal ball at what our future will be. Brees doesnt even need to get injured, the impending rot will infuse the core and we will be what we have spent 44 years trying to shed. We MUST find the next Brees and set him up for success. We cannot be certain of avoiding the colts fate, but we have to not repeat their colossal failure to contingency plan. We must lobby Saints management not to go all in on one player. There is NO excuse given the horrifying display last night |

Lets see, good O-line and still young, very good RB's, very good WR's, excellent TE, good FB's, very good CB's, very good safeties, great Punter, good kicker, and some young promising players in Jordan, Wilson, Patrick, Robinson, Quddus, Galette, Jenkins, Casillas.
I fail to see your eggs in one basket viewpoint. We're light years ahead of where the Colts are. |

I don't think Chase is all that bad either. Xan, the glass really is half full.

Think about the difference between the Colts and the Patriots. We are a mirror image of New England, as much as their is one. The Colts are a whole different animal, if you'll pardon the pun.

Our defense is average at best. Our o-line is hanging on every game. The offense is based on reads, then being on the same page, then the qb delivering much the exact same way manning ran the Colts offense. I really don't see much difference between the colts and saints. And the pats are in the same boat, no backup as well. We didn't put chase in until it was 55-7. And he didn't throw a pass. How is it developing a transition if he doesn't even change the play at the line from run left to run right??
My point is that dynasties reload before their chambers are empty. We should reload at qb as soon as possible. We should resist mortgaging the future to overpay and mortgage the future. |

It's a plausible situation and this is a quarterbacks league...
Also, I know that while I love many of our players, many of them are average at best and Brees play at quarterback makes offensive components better and erases bad performances by the defense. (Dwight Freeney, where has thou star gone without Peyton?) A good example in history to learn from are the San Francisco 49ers; even though Montana, an average, pedestrian athlete but quarterbacking god was on top of his game, Bill Walsh (who Payton could draw comparisons) still went out and got Steve Young who was rotting in Tampa... If I'm Coach P, I'm kicking Mickey and that scouting department in their ass to find me Drew's line of succession... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

If the unmentionable happened would Loomis get the QB from our minor league team for season?

I think the biggest problem with the colts is that they never reloaded. Loomis is always looking for new and better talent and bringing in what looks to be upgrades, it doesn't always work out but sometimes it does.
