this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Maybe Sean is thinking Spags 'could' do it but needs to focus on a "D" that needs help. Pete may not be ready, and nobody knows this more than Sean. It could be as much to protect those men as ...

Not just protect them, but keep the continuity in place for the season.

Spags was hired to coach the defense, and Pete was hired to coordinate the offense.

Adding additional duties to either one's plate is gonna reduce their effectiveness.

Pete will eventually get his chance, but its a lot to throw on him right now.

Parcell's is a master when it comes to the press... What they need to know, and what they DON'T. PR move? That's what I'm guessing, but at the same time, the man knows football. By the time he gets done, and Payton comes back, the pressure will be off considerably...

I don’t care what anyone says, an outside coach is a must in this situation to me! I think Gruden or Mora would be a better option because Parcells does like total control but I think since he and Payton have such a close relationship he’ll respect Payton’s system. We need Carmihael to focus on offense and Spags to focus solely on defense. I think this could only add more depth and be a great thing for the Saints.

Obviously Payton thinks he's the best option for our situation so I'm OK with that.

I just wonder if Parcells is interested.

I think if he wasn't interested Danno, he would have already said so. Parcell's isn't one for not letting people know how he feels, that's for sure. lol

Good point, but compensation may cause a delay.

Wow! Hiring Parcells to replace Sean would definitely be a swift kick to the gonads of Goodell. But Parcells is 71 yrs old, would he even be physically up to the task?
