Bucs notes: Crucial call keeps Saints' TD drive alive

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a rule that states that if you are a defensive player, you are allowed to push the WR out of bounds if the QB is out of the pocket?...

Just imagine how well liked Schiano would be if he coached the Failcons? University of Idaho is looking for a new coach, i'm sure he'd fit in there.

Yes, thats why PR pushed him, then immediately started showing the ref after his catch.

Both plays the Bucs are whining about, they are whining about because they don't know the rules.

On the FG attempt, at least 2 rules were broken:
when they shifted, one player shifted in front of the center, and you can't line up directly in front of the center on long snaps. Then trying to verbally emulate the snap count. They also could've been called for "flinching" (I don't recall the exact terminology at this moment), or trying to draw the o-line offside by a quick forward move pretending they were charging.

On the Robinson push, the pocket is not defined by the hash marks, but the tackles. Once the QB runs past his tackle, he's "out of the pocket". Although, I've seen that call be made the other way if the QB still has the ball cocked, but not when the QB is in full run.

Its amazing how many people knew this rule...
I didn't even give it a thought until after it happened. Same thing was said on Scott Van Pelt show. He didn't even really realize it until after it happened.

Shouldn't the title be "Stupid COACHing call keeps drive alive?"

Nope... The WR should have known and taken him self out. QB cant see feet that far away to know if he was in or out.

The WR should have let the QB know he was ineligible.

Can't agree with you on that. All it would have taken is one finger on the ball by any defender and that would have been a TD. Jenkins showed you never give up on a play no matter what. It's the one time I'm glad our defense didn't have their hands up and possibly tip that ball.

A 30 yard pass does not go to the intended receiver when tipped. A tip light enough to not deflect at all would have not been called a tip.

Jenkins and this play are apples to oranges. Had Williams not taken him self out it could have gone to an eligible receiver and been a TD.

Disagree if you like, it doesn't change the fact that when that ball left Freemans hand on its way to Williams the game was over no matter what happened after that.

Re: Bucs notes: Crucial call keeps Saints' TD drive alive

I thought the calls heavily favored the Bucs. Between the interception they clearly took from us, which led to a Tampa touchdown, and I believe it was on their last touchdown drive that the refs kept making bogus calls on third and 4th downs, including an illegal contact call on an incomplete pass that turned 4th and 25 into an automatic first down. The Suckaneers have no right to whine.
