this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I respect Coltson but I'm calling BS, loosing Sproles took away some of the predictability to this offense if anything the questionable play calling is more to blame...

Can't believe I'm saying this but the loss of Jenkins and Harper hurt this team more than the loss of Sproles and I was happy to see can't tackle and can't cover leave

Sproles was a huge part of our offense.... Sean Payton has always had that type of quick back to come out the back field catch passes and make plays... Reggie Bush... Darren Sproles.... This year no one... And that was a huge part we missed on offense... Yeah Brandin Cooks end around worked a few times but he isn't a RB.... He is a WR

Bush trade lead us to Sproles. that was a solid option but his impact was not so great as Bush
Sproles trade leads us to cook. that failed to have the same kind of impact Cooks lack of impact on defenses could lead us yet again to drafting another player that will cause teams to adjust to SP toy. Cadet and Ingram give the saints the rosters spots. my gut says the saints will be looking at Melvin Gordon, Duke Johnson or Ameer Abdullah to fill the roll i like Rannell Hall UCF to fill Cadets roll SP offensive game requires this type of impact player. always has and always will. |

I'd like them to draft Duke in one of the mid rounds

Damn good thread going on here! The Super Bowl has been mentioned
and I'm thinking that was the 2009 season. We are now coming into 2015 it's almost hard to believe how long ago that really was. |

which is why I'm back to being hard on every move they make again, the honeymoon is over for winning a championship plus the window is closing because like it or not accept the fact that the Saints will spiral back to mediocrity once Brees retires

All I'm saying is Sproles was a great player for us and fit our scheme well, but the last year he was here he really wasn't setting the world on fire and I know most of you can agree with that. Sproles leaving had little to no effect at all on our offensive struggles. Dropped passes and Not protecting Brees was the problem, along with lack of emotion and execution. I think we let go of Spoles at the right time.

Things end up different if Cooks doesn't go on IR and the play calling wasn't so predictable for most of the season

Re: Saints wide receiver Marques Colston says loss of Darren Sproles contributed to offensive struggles
Problem is simple football, Line of Scrimmage...
And when we took on what was then upstarts like Seattle, San Fran in the playoffs they weren't intimidated by our offense... We had a very, very effective offensive line that could smack teams in the mouth in the past... Nicks left, Evans and Strief got older, like Parcells, Madden et al would say, it starts upfront... We get to where we can easily pick up two downs by just snapping the ball, which... Having a powerful offensive line 'masks' inefficiencs of our defense, because... Or having that lunch pail front seven type on defense that could scrap and scrape and weren't wore out from losing the time of possession... But fixing the offensive line can happen real fast this offseason cause it's like having a group of bullies that have the ball and no one can get to it because it's protected... I mean look at what Dallas achieved and they have Romo at quarterback; and Dallas smacked Seattle this season... Fix the offensive line. Fix the defensive front seven. Celebrate Lombardi Gras again... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
