Re: Saints Trade Graham to the Seahawks

This explains a lot from the Hawks perspective..

The #Saints would eat $9M in dead cap by trading TE Jimmy Graham. Receiving team would be getting him at 3 years $27M ($7.9M g’teed)

Re: Saints Trade Graham to the Seahawks

The Saints fans are the winners here. Coming off a disasterous season in which Graham really looked like he gave up on many occasions, we are now hyped and excited to see what happens next. I just hope we can turn around our recent struggles in the draft. We now have two first round picks and if we can find two starters there, we'll be on our way. I like Maxx Williams a TE from Minnesota. If we could get him in the 2nd or even 3rd round, I think he could be a starter for years to come and be a Jason Witten type of player.

i am going back to what i said when jimmy signed the new contract.

his shelf life is almost up. injuries will be a year in and year out issue with him. jump balls and defenders under cutting him has taken a toll on that big ol body.

To be honest, it is robbery; nobody would say no to that. Now you guys had better hit on your first rounders....

Re: Saints Trade Graham to the Seahawks

Brees is at his best when he has a pocket to step up in, last year the pocket was collapsing a lot. The 3 interior linemen are more important for the Saints than the tackles.

Jimmy Graham has been to much of a focal point in an offense that thrives on versatility and spreading the ball around. We have two really good young WRs in Stills and Cooks, a savvy veteran in Colston.

Add to that Josh Hill that looked really good and I think this might be a good move. Also adding a good center should help make the running game even better.

And what happens when your running game is better? Offensive drives take more time and controls the clock which in turn helps the defence. I love Jimmy but this can turn out to be a real solid move.

Now lets see us package those two first and move up to the #4 pick to get a kicker...

Re: Saints Trade Graham to the Seahawks

When Brees has enough time in the pocket, EVERYONE is Jimmy Graham.

Robbery? We got a first from you and a center to protect Drew and block for Ingram when healthy. Meanwhile you get a fourth rounder.

And thats why we have a new scout to see to it we hit on our picks.

He doesn't mean they robbed us... Just that getting a playmaker like Jimmy Graham with that little amount of guaranteed money is ridiculous.

No one. Put Hill and Watson out there. Both were quite productive when Graham wasn't available.

No need. If you want to get an idea of the Saints offense without Graham, take a look at the Pittsburgh game last season. Other than the decoy on the Watson TD, Graham simply wasn't a significant contributor. And the offense still ran like clockwork.

You realize that after this year most of Graham's guaranteed money is gone. The Hawks will have no trouble signing Wilson. We got Graham for a 1st rounder and I am ok with that (Your telling me teams wouldn't want Jimmy Graham for a 1st round pick??). You guys got Unger for a fourth. Graham has been pretty healthy while Unger is debatable. Graham hasn't been a cancer in the locker room so unless he is a coaches problem, I see very little risk??

IM sorry F this trade. we just made them unbeatable and there is not a team I hate worse than them. We could've got more from a team that isn't already stacked.

dizzle88 03-10-2015 05:07 PM

Re: Saints Trade Graham to the Seahawks

Pocket constantly collapsing
Brees throwing to Jimmy Graham on every 3rd down, every team knew it

Both those issues fixed

2009 and 2011 offenses were successful because no one was the focal point, teams would try to matchup with all our playmakers and suddenly there's David Thomas of all people catching a short pass and rumbling for 20+ yards.

As much as I liked Graham, I believe with a better O line we won't miss him at all.

Give Josh Hill a chance.

Re: Saints Trade Graham to the Seahawks

I agree that Josh Hill is a good talent.
There is a post on here and NFLUK forums from around MAy 2014 that i said Hill would have a breakout year. Watson is a very good alllround TE but his has some health issues. Im happy with Hill but for the right cash id have any of them three

I just saw this. I'm in shock.

Is 32nd pick in the first round still considered first round?

I hate that we traded him to Seattle. He's going to frikkin explode out there, unless he get injured again.

31st pick, Seattle lost the superbowl.

Same here

Now lets trade that pick 13 for pick 18-22 and a second and go into the draft with 2 firsts and 2 2nds

What the hell! This is disturbing. The entire football world thinks we are crazy. Why did we bother to pay him last year when we knew it was going to hurt the salary cap this year.
They better come up with something big to make up for this loss and let's hope we don't have to play Jimmy & the Hawks in the playoffs.

lee909 03-10-2015 05:24 PM

Re: Saints Trade Graham to the Seahawks

Should make both teams happy

Saints take a short term hit for 5 years of a round one rookie deal.
Might hurt us this year all the changes but long term we shoudl hit next year at worst with a high draft pick and a tonne of cap room after the big deals are cutble

I love the fact that Unger was part of this trade. Last year proved the Saints were in need of a intelligent center. JG is a beast no if ands or buts. The problem is his attitude. Last year he took a lot of plays off and disappeared in big games. Saints know Drew needs help from the running game and y'all need a dominant wr. We both got what we needed for sure. No doubt the Rd1 is big for the Saints also. ILB, OLB and CB are huge needs and those can be had in a deep first 2 rds of the draft.

One thing I did notice with The Saints last year. Graham on the field... Paaaaaassssssss. Graham off the field.. run. Was your OC a little too predictable last year?

You should have seen it on 3rd down, 11 players could cover Graham and Brees would still force it there

Our offense performed better without Graham, Brees is at his best when he has time and when he can spread the ball around

The ball was constantly forced to Graham because the pocket kept collapsing too quick.

lee909 03-10-2015 05:41 PM

Re: Saints Trade Graham to the Seahawks

We have been getting predictable for a couple of years imo.

I think the grades from Walterfootball are spot on

Seahawks acquire TE Jimmy Graham, 4th-round pick from Saints for C Max Unger, 1st-round pick
Remember a year ago when the Saints gave Jimmy Graham all that money? It's amazing how quickly things can change in the NFL. Graham is now gone to the Pacific Northwest, and the Saints acquired Max Unger and a first-round choice in return.

I don't think there's a concise winner in this deal, as it makes sense for both teams. For Seattle, throwing the ball to Graham in the end zone makes a lot more sense than targeting Ricardo Lockette, or any of the other mediocre targets Seattle had. Graham's presence on the field will also open things up for Marshawn Lynch, who won't face stacked boxes anymore. More importantly, Wilson finally has a stud weapon to work with, so he'll be even better in his fourth season.

Wilson, however, loses a center, but that's not a huge deal because of how mobile he is. It would mean far more for a pocket-passing quarterback, but the offensive line isn't as prevalent for Wilson. It is for Drew Brees, who was beaten up last year because center Jonathan Goodwin was incompetent. Unger is a huge upgrade, and the Saints are getting a first-round pick on top of it.

Brees does lose Graham though, which is huge. Perhaps the Saints will use their second opening-round draft selection on a replacement in Maxx Williams, who fits the range at the end of the first round, though I currently have Williams going in the second frame. For more, check out my 2015 NFL Mock Draft, which was updated today.

Re: Saints Trade Graham to the Seahawks

Why trade him when they could've got a 1st and at least fifth rd pick last year? Now trade him for a 1st that might as well be a second rd pick and trade a 4th rd pick for a oft injured player when we have Tim Lelito on the roster has me puzzled. It didn't solve the cap, its not a definite answer at center and its not really a 1st rd pick when you're only 2 draft picks away from the second.

I AM PRAYING WE DRAFT BETTER THAN LAST YEAR OR WE WILL BE SAYING BYE TO THE BEST COACH THE SAINTS EVER HAD

I agree with this totally. I hope Unger stays healthy; he is a great player and will be missed in Seattle. He has had injuries but to be honest, he has had some bad luck. I will probably be a closet Saints fan next year and I really hope you take it to Dan Quinn.

On second thought he's not a blocker & perhaps Sean is still pissed about the fumble in the end zone against Atlanta.

I don't think Graham had a catch in the Pittsburgh game, and maybe not even a single pass went his way. We still scored at will, and it was one of our best offensive games.
