this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Unless we are planning a trade for a significant salary player I totally do not understand this move....

Re: Saints restructure Drew Brees deal, push more cap hit to future
I have no doubt we're making a move for somebody.
TE? WR? DE/OLB? |

Da Bears are having a fire sale. Can we get some O-line help or CB anything.

Re: Saints restructure Drew Brees deal, push more cap hit to future
I find this news unsettling. More pushing back the problems for a short term "solution". Loomis can't just keep treating this like he's got to salvage the window we have left with Drew. That window, while not officially closed, is clearly broken. The more we try to patch things up for the short term, the longer it's going to take to recover our losses and rebuild.
Get Drew healthy, hope that he returns at least relatively close to form, draft some freaking help for him, and hope that the defense grows up enough. Then we might be good again while Drew is still here. If we get desperate, I think we're only closing the window faster. I don't know exactly what's going to happen with this move, so maybe something else will come about that makes more sense. But if it's what it looks like, I'm not sure it's worth it at all. It's not like we're going to get AJ Green or Julio Jones. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

You guys can feel however you want but this season is far from over and it's obvious the team hasn't given up.
Not to paint too pretty of a picture here, but all three losses went down to the wire and we lost by shooting ourselves in the foot. 3 starters coming back from injury. 1 more player could make an impact. Anything can happen. Like 3-3 and a game back by week six. |

Yes we have our injuries, but we don't have enough play makers on offense right now, and all the injuries are on the defensive side. It'll be nice if Byrd and Lewis come back healthy enough to help us, but we also haven't played a particularly tough schedule yet. I wonder just how much of a difference they can make.
A healthy Brees makes us competitive, but not playoff competitive, especially with the hole we're already in. I hope I'm wrong, obviously. We shall see. |

Re: Saints restructure Drew Brees deal, push more cap hit to future
The key for me is if Drew really wants to win another SB title next year he'll pull the Tom Brady and take a salary well bellow market value, I seriously doubt he needs the money and really there are no other options.

We know Mickey won't clear it any other way. |

Re: Saints restructure Drew Brees deal, push more cap hit to future
This is a simple move. The cap is expected to rise by 17 million next year plus Brees will no doubt sign an extension to lower his cap and we need help this year. This is the only way to receive cap help. After 3 weeks this season isn't over.
