When we moved it early,
Yet, "we" could not score, even when "we" got the ball back inside the Eagles territory.

Our defense had no resistance other than touchdown saving interceptions on horribly thrown balls.
Yet, the Eagles did not score. And those were not horribly thrown balls. Those were good plays made by the defense.

When we had an entire half to rest and then got the ball first, drove down the field and kicked the game tying field goal, our defense came back out and didn't come close to stopping them.
Oh yeah! 3 points!! Game winner right there. And the offensive run down after the 3 points, you ask?

1 Play, fumble lost, Eagles offense gets the ball at the Saints 13. Eagles get TD off it.
6 plays, 17 yards, punt. Eagles get only a FG off it.
4 plays, 18 yards, punt. Eagles get only a FG off it.
3 plays, fumble lost. Eagles get only FG off it.
2 plays, interception. eagles offense gets the ball at the Saints 4. Eagles get TD off it.

That's a grand total of 16 plays in 5 offensive series, no points scored, and 3 TOs.

I'm sorry, but there aren't enough excuses in the world to make up for 519 yards.
It is not about making excuses for 519 yards.
1. No one is excusing anything.
2. The score doesn't count yards, it counts points. And when the game mattered, the Eagles could have scored 11 points and won the game.

But go ahead and pile up on the coach that has 6 rookies starting on defense (especially one that seems to get flagged for merely looking wrong at WRs) and doesn't have the freedom to bring his own assistant coaches.

The thread title should read fire Payton, not RR.

BRAVO!!!!!! I've been saying that as well...

No one is holding the defense blameless but we knew they would suck...now that the offense is just as bad the defense is still why we loss. We have a problem...an offense that has gone from 30 pts/game to 10pts/game...i said this in another thread but Payton acts like this is Madden...instead of getting players that will work with the scheme Ryan wants to play...

Dude, I don't think you understand the point at all. Between you and the other guy arguing with me in here, neither of you seem to get that I'm not excusing either side of the ball. You don't win games when you play like the Saints did yesterday, period. That's why the score was 39-17 and could have been worse. They stink. When did I tell you that the offense did enough to win?

I gave my opinion on both sides of the ball in this thread. And when it comes to the defense, I really don't care about how much time they're on the field when they show ZERO resistance.

You keep bringing up how many points we scored. You're argument is that the defense was on the field too much. It doesn't matter that the opening drive was a field goal instead of a touchdown. The point was simple: You had the whole half plus a long drive to open the second half to allow the defense to rest, and they still got torched right off the bat. In the first quarter, before the defense had any excuse of being tired, they were giving up huge yards. It was fortunate that we got the turnovers. And yes, those WERE bad throws. Especially the first one, which was woefully late on an out route. That bailed them out.

The fact that they got the interceptions doesn't take away from the fact that they were getting pushed around the whole way down the field. There are better teams than the Eagles who won't make those mistakes.

And I'll say it one more time... If they can get 3 and out's, why can't the Saints? If you're not getting abused, you're not going to be on the field long enough to get overly tired. How do you think some games end in scores like 7-3? Neither team is moving the ball, but both defenses manage to keep playing well given that, well, you know, it's 7-3.

As far as how young the defense is, that isn't an excuse for Rob considering they were bad last year as well. He doesn't have a track record for cultivating talent. He has so-so years, and bunch of not so good years as you look through his entire resume'. You wanna fire Payton? Ok, I've made the point he should be under fire, many times before. I don't disagree with you on his own responsibility. You know what some say to that? "Sean won a super bowl, Rob didn't". It doesn't matter who you talk to in here, someone always has an excuse for somebody. You know what I say? They are ALL blowing their jobs right now.

There was no offense or defense in this game. The score could have been better if the offense had played better, but how much better? Neither unit played well. It didn't end better, it ended horribly. There's nothing else to say.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.
