Under the radar free agents per PFF ..

Mario Addison
is intriguing & the production within a 4-3 system is there.

Chris, Hagan, JP or anyone here... your thoughts on Addison?

As far as play on the field, Galette 2.0; one dimensional; plus, he'll be 30 next season and I'd expect his speed to really start tailing off and that's what his game is predicated...

With the speed that we'll have coming from the inside rush, we really more of a contain and squeeze defensive end vs a speed linebacker type that Galette was...

Rather have a bigger, longer, taller Defensive End setting the edge; kind of a 6-4/6-5, 280/290 dancing bear with wingspan to really slow down those wheel routes and screens...

I agree with your assessment of the player. But this is where I respectfully disagree," the speed we have coming from the inside". The reason I have to disagree, which I admit pressure was better, it's still missing something, it's missing that 1 player to put them over the top on the inside and until they find that 1 player it will be the same look as last season with pressures and sacks and we looked better than recent years we were still poor in those areas. This is the reason I'm not as high on Farley like others are. JP take into account how much Allen blitzes and we still were not able to get to the qb and without crushing the middle our inside just look better than it really is. We can't just have decent pressure it has to be pure pressure to work.

FA Kawann Short will govern it all.

I am expecting top 5 DT money making the signing of there UFA impossible.

Mario is Young and up coming it would appear. He flashes. Not steady at this point but the signs look good that he can get better.

Mario is in the process of taking over for age so I see the panthers doing all they can to keep him off the market. Just starting to play as a starter means the panthers should be able to keep him cheap. He is just now gettiing his chance to be the starter.

Thats why I am looking at AJ Klien a player when called produced year in and year out no matter where he played. I think he is one that might just leave to get an honest shot at starting. Saints are a good team to offer him that chance.

I'm curious what type of money Fairley wants wheather we sign him or not? I would hate for the FO to hand out another huge contract to a good player but no where near a game changer.

Linebackers are good and as always we need DE and CB's I say we throw some money at it this year as well as draft heavy.

this is one of my fears. the other is him getting the money and once again stops playing and ends up eating wings in the press box

I'd go DE in free agency. Rookies can take the most time to develop at DE.

If it's my $30M, I sign Hightower and Melvin Ingram.

Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?

Kevin Zeitler and/or Andrew Norwell, even one of them gives us an elite offensive line, both would give us the best line in football...

Defensive End would be my next priority and I'd sign Chandler Jones; he's a speed end, with good height, 6' 5", enough weight at 260 lbs. and he's a proven pass rusher and would fit great opposite Cam Jordan...

That would give us just enough money still to bring back CB Sterling Moore, FB John Kuhn, and pay WR Willie Snead is Exclusive Rights FA contract...

If we'd want another guy, we could start rolling it forward, which would be a mistake after being in cap hell these past few years...

The other option would be extend Drew, maybe Cam to bring back Fairley, but he's probably played himself out of the market for us...

Unless Fairley wants to give the hometown discount for some peace, happiness and a championship... ;)

I could live with that trade off for a guy that has 47 sacks in 5 years. If we can get an improvement in LB play that could take care of any slack a player like Jones might leave.

Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?

With the quality DE and LBs in upper rounds of this years draft, I hope the Saints can address the OLine in free agency. I think one thing the Saints have going for them when it comes to attracting guards will be the opportunity to play between Unger and Strief, Armstead, Peat. Those guys have the ability to make the guards position easier and give them a chance to shine.

Zeilter seems to be a no brainer. I'll be disappointed if the Saints aren't at least in the running. Money shouldn't be an issue.

We're in a great position when it comes to Norwell. Since he's a RFA, we can run up the offer and force Carolina into spending more than they wanted. Their offensive line was a mess this year. Norwell was the one constant. I would imagine they'd be willing to pay through the nose to keep him. And they still have to resign Kwann Short, Mario Addison and Charles Johnson.

Larry Warford of the Lions is another UFA the Saints should go after. He's had some injury issues, he's missed 7 games in the last 4 years and in few of the games he's been healthy, he didn't play particularly well but when he's on, he's one of the best in the league.

Ronald Leary had an outstanding season allowing him to show off his skills before his inevitable separation with the Boys. He came off as a "me first" kinda guy last season when he was beat out of his starting position by La'el Collins, but who knows if that was real or blown out of proportion by the Cowboys to lessen his FA value this year. If the Saints coaches are confident this isn't a problem, he'd be a definite upgrade.

T.J. Lang is a UFA but there is serious doubt as to whether the Packers will let him hit the market. That said, very few people expected them to let Josh Sitton walk last year either. If he does make it to FA, I hope the Saints are ready to make him an offer.

The Saints also need to get a replacement for Strief on the roster. He's a beast but with those knees, he's not going to last a lot longer. Of course, I've been saying that for 3 years now and he keeps proving me wrong.

Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?

On Zeitler's market...

Osemele’s actual annual salary is $11.7 million with the Raiders and it’s a five year deal. Similarly, Steelers guard David DeCastro, who also made the Pro Bowl, signed a 5 year, $50 million contract last offseason, which includes an average salary of $10 million. According to Lapham, Zeitler was offered a deal by the Bengals last offseason that was “something like $5.5 million per year average”. That’s nowhere near what DeCastro and Osemele received and it’s highly likely Zeitler will be looking for a deal in line with what those two Pro Bowl players signed just one offseason ago. Zeitler is a third alternate in the Pro Bowl this season.

Source: http://www.cincyjungle.com/2017/1/3/...drew-whitworth

Look, Falcons wisely got Alex Mack to solidify their offensive line - and the results are they kept their defense off the field and they're going to the show...

Zeitler is a top-5 guard in the prime of his career; if we were willing to pay Evans what we paid, then it makes sense to be consistent and secure Z for 10.25 mil/year...

Then you're looking at an O-Line of Strief-Zeitler-Unger-Peat-Armstead; an elite offensive line where, to a man, each part can handle most assignments one-to-one...

That'd be a huge boon to our running game, helping eat up more clock, keeping the defense off the field - so yes, this helps the defense as well...

FA concerns for me ...

Top Tier talent : LB, G, CB
Depth : RT, joker RB, & Edge rusher.

Side note: I hope the Saints FO zero's in on a 2,3 year deal for Nick Fairley & stay clear away from the unknowns.
Continue to build through the draft ;).

30 million dollars should give us Zeitler and a DE or corner in free agency and hopefully have enough money left to re-sign our free agents. I want to sign Fairley and Snead to contracts and keep them in New Orleans at a semi-reasonable rate.

The way i've seen the Saints use their FB the past few years, it wouldn't bother me one bit to see them make a run at Kyle Juszczyk. 26 years old and checks all the boxes...Only 26 Years old, great out of the backfield as a receiver/runner, great blocker & just entering his prime.

of course price would have to be right & id rather throw cash at Zeitler first, But wouldn't mind having him. good option since we are a team who uses the FB in a way that alot of teams don't these days.

Ingram’s inconsistency is a huge part in why him being re-signed or let go is a real question. Whether it be the wild-tackling, his tendency to disappear from games, the “he almost got there” plays or the missed sacks, Ingram hasn’t been consistent enough to make his contract situation a no-brainer for the Chargers.

Now DE Andre Branch is another story. A multi-year deal that should not break the bank sounds good.Warning he played in the AFC East which is not the greatest division to judge defensive players/ The Teams in the AFC are not known for stellar OL play anymore and the revolving door at QB continues across the division. Do not get desperate. Stop and proceed with caution.

My favorite targets for the Saints' Top Ten Free Agent Targets:

1. RG Kevin Zeitler, 27

2. LG Andrew Norwell, 25

3. DE Chandler Jones, 27

4. CB A.J. Bouye, 26

5. CB Logan Ryan, 26

6. WR Willie Snead, 24

7. CB Sterling Moore, 26

8. DT Nick Fairley, 28

9. FB John Kuhn, 34 (signed) :bng:

10. LB Kiko Alonso, 27

Disclaimer: Again, don't expect to sign all from the list, but three or four of the top 6 would be great...

The top three and our key returning FAs would have me :cheering:...

Rick Wagner RT Baltimore Ravens 26 / 6'6' / 310 / Wisconsin / 2013 / Rd. 5 (168) / BAL
Baltimore Ravens are in a tight cap situation. one of the league's better right tackles
$6-7 million per year?

LB
A.J. Klein MLB Carolina 25 / 6'1' / 240 / 2013 / Rd. 5 (148) / CAR / $675,000,
He might just escape and get a shot. He is one of the best reserve LB in the NFL. MLB is home but very comfortable at OLB also. smart

QB
Mike Glennon QB Tampa Bay 26 / /6'6' / 225 / 2013 / Rd. 3 (73) / TB $675,000, 2017: Free Agent
Big strong armed QB the Saints have been linked to in the past

?
"could fetch" $13-15 million?

S
Brynden Trawick S Oakland Raiders 27 / 6'2' / 225/ 2013 / UDFA / BAL / $825,000 2017: Free Agent
back up safety that is a speial team demon

others? Bargain basements and prove it contracts?
Terrance Williams WR Dallas 27 / 6'2' / 210 / Rd. 3 (74) / DAL / $1.686 million

Depends on what Fairley wants but I could see both Hankins and Klein together being cheaper. Corey Lemonier under Nolan might be interesting, I figure at least solid, but Hagan I thought he was with the Jets? I wouldn't mind seeing what Jones could do also.

Yikes! Guess we should rule him out.

He wants 14M? I'll pass on Mr. Gilmore. We could use a top tier G and/or edge rusher.

This is the reason I'm not as high on Farley like others are. JP take into account how much Allen blitzes and we still were not able to get to the qb and without crushing the middle our inside just look better than it really is. We can't just have decent pressure it has to be pure pressure to work.

Halloween, you need to split the season and look at the team in the second half of the season; Rankins was reactivated and Onyemata was starting to learn the game; then, from that point look at the progression of the interior rush and you will see markedly improvement; even after the first half of the second ATL game, these boys ate; and you need to remember also that Davison tore a pectoral muscle and played with it injured the whole season and just had it surgically repaired; even without bringing back Fairley, we're looking real good on our interior line...
