Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
The Saints should stay way from free agency.

Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
Makes me realize just how bad we f'd up by not grabbing an impact pass rusher after Galette went nuts.

Know it's Schefter, but looks like the top options at CB and DE won't see the light of day; and that may not be a bad thing for the Saints...

Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
Updated [after a bevy of Franchise Designations] my favorite targets for the Saints' Top Ten Free Agent Targets:
1. RG Kevin Zeitler, 27 (The Big Kahuna) 2. DE Calais Campbell, 30 3. LB A.J. Klein, 25 4. LG Andrew Norwell, 25 (RFA) 5. CB Stephen Gilmore, 26 6. QB Brian Hoyer, 31 7. DE Andre Branch, 27 8. CB Sterling Moore, 26 9. WR Willie Snead, 24 (RFA) 10. FB John Kuhn, 34 (signed) :bng: Note(s): Franchise tags start coming down... Signing three of the top five and our key returning FAs would have us all ... |

Dont’a Hightower has his own red flags.
2013 was the only year he played in all 16 games you will get 12 to 13 games a year out of him |
Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
I guess our strategy should be:
FA pickups: guard (Zeilter), corner (Bouye), LB (Hightower) or DE (campbell) Draft, first 3 rounds: pass rusher, ILB (depending on Hightower signing), corner/safety (I won't rush to sign Vaccaro long term) |
Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
AJ Bouye appears to be a fine player but this guy wasn't even a starter until the mid part of October 2016. Remember the Texans have an above average defensive line. If I'm a GM/owner, no way I'm throwing 10M + his way in Free Agency.
Careful ... |

But you're right, there is a problem in FA acquisitions in recent memory when less than one or two have any positive impact and Terry Fontenot has been Director of Pro Scouting during that tenure... |

To excel in the a division with a revolving door at the QB position year after year on sub par teams is not a level of production to put our full trust and large sums of money into a player that is feasting of poor play. New England is the only team with a history of QB stability. Jets Miami and even the bills are teams with a long history of mediocrity at the QB position. The Buffalo News reports the Bills will not use the franchise tag on free agent CB Stephon Gilmore. With only $21 million in cap space, the Bills apparently believe they couldn't afford the roughly $15 million tag. It's a mild surprise, though it could also be an indication the sides are making progress in long-term talks. Reportedly seeking "top-five" cornerback money, Gilmore is Rotoworld's No. 3 free agent corner. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/...tephon-gilmore 15 million? pass 10 million? pass If we are talking a team ready for a super bowl run and we need that one or two pieces then by all means. To many upgrades across the board are needed on defense. Offense Kevin Zeitler RG Cincinnati Bengals 26 / 6'4' / 320 / Rd. 1 (27) / CIN would be a huge prize and fill a huge need Rick Wagner RT Baltimore Ravens 26 / 6'6' / 310 / Rd. 5 (168) / BAL I believe he ready to take the next step and become one of the best OT in the NFL Rex Burkhead RB Bengals (26) / 5' 10" / 215 / RD 6 (190) / 2013 / Cincinnati third down back SP could use as a gadget player all over the field. DefenseYouth and Proven Versatility Micah Hyde FS/SS/CB/PR/KR Green Bay Packers (26) / 6'0' / 197 / Rd. 5 (159) / GB Swiss army knife for the entire secondary A.J. Klein MLB Carolina (25) / 6'1' / 240 / 2013 / Rd. 5 (148) / CAR Biggest steal in 2017 FA? I refuse to second guess myself despite the lack of love the media is giving him. Swiss army knife that at the very least gives you a ten fold depth upgraded at all three LB positions. God knows we need it. I would pencil him as starting MLB before the ink dried. Johnathan Hankins and Nick Fairley are still around but at dollar amount so Jabaal Sheard DE Patriots (27) / 6'3' / 265/ Rd. 2 (37) / CLE - solid pass rush addition in a rotation that may come cheaper than one might think Lawrence Guy, DE/DT, Ravens (26) / 6'4' / 305 / Rd. 7 (233) / GB Karl Klug, DL Titans (28) / 6'3' / 278 / Rd. 5 (142) / TEN Solid one-year, prove-it deal candidate that can pay off big time? recovering from an Achilles injury and is unlikely to be ready for the start of training camp. But a solid rotational DL player. DT or DE in a 34 or 43 he is just a steady Eddie on the field. |
Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
Continue to sign several mid-tier guys or low risk/high reward players to fill holes. Then draft who we want.
If there is any big "splash" made in FA, I'd be happy with that guard mauler from Cincy. |

Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
The post Byrd money will likely go to locking up Vacarro.
Still with over $30MM we should land a solid G, DE/DT and CB. I bet we have a stellar draft again this year. |

S - Bye Bye Jairus Byrd? Cap Saving 2017 $3.7m 2018 $7.6m 2019 $9m
$2.4 to $5.25 million Contract Range Duron Harmon, FS, New England Patriots (26) / 6'1' / 205 / Rd. 3 (91) / NE A nickel safety trapped behind Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung has proven ability to play deep off the line of scrimmage and still influence play. Harmon has shown his adept skills in pass coverage and tracking down the football downfield and has made big plays for the team, Teams have no shortage of strong safety options, but a legitimate talent at free safety is a rare prize. He has helped in coverage, but not necessarily in one-on-one situations all that often.Belichick has spoken very highly of Harmon, including saying “He’s smart, he works hard, he studies, he trains hard” and even going as far as to say “Duron is, I’d say every team, or most every team I’ve ever coached, there are always a couple guys on the team that I would say, for lack of a better word, that are silent leaders” He is the guy to look to for a big pass break-up, or great coverage downfield, or the big-time interception when needed. Micah Hyde FS/SS Green Bay Packers 26 / 6'0' / 197 / Rd. 5 (159) / GB He is a dependable player who offers versatility. Hyde is capable of playing both free and strong safety. Hyde has showcased consistent football despite being trapped in a rotation with HaHa Clinton-Dix and Morgan Burnett in his tenure with the Packers. Hyde has racked up 227 tackles, 24 passes defensed, eight interceptions and four sacks in 63 career games. In addition, Hyde has punt return capabilities, recording three touchdowns throughout his career. He’ll most likely be searching for a starting opportunity. |
