Updated my favorite targets for the Saints' Top Ten Free Agent Targets:

1. RG Kevin Zeitler, 27

2. CB Trumaine Johnson, 27

3. LB Melvin Ingram, 28

4. CB A.J. Bouye, 26

5. LG Andrew Norwell, 25 (RFA)

6. QB Brian Hoyer, 31

7. DT Nick Fairley, 28

Signing three of the top five and our key returning FAs would have me ...

That is a great list with substantial talent that we so desperately need.

I too question Hoyer. but I don't follow him so I'll trust your evaluation but that seems early on a wish list.

In my opinion Snead needs to be in the top five but if we get a deal done I'm gonna' be happy.

AJ Bouye has been a favorite of mine but the more I read about him the more I hear that he is wildly inconsistent, even though he played well this year.

I absolutely want Zeitler but he may price himself out of our range. Not even a mention of Leary? I do not know if he plays LG or RG. Currently we are in the market for a RG while Peat plays at LG.

Backup, definitely; good football IQ, scrappy, competitive...

But the operative word is not replacement, it's transition...

He's a good quarterback, he's just not been with the right pro coaching...

Or OL. I thought he was pretty good when he was with MSU. He seemed to have a way to get his team to really believe in him. I do wonder if the pros have knocked that out of him yet.

If I'm the Texans, I'm tagging him - better to have one bad year of a contract and move on than four years of a bad contract at that position...

Should Bouye prove he was no one year wonder, you can tag him again and get him extended long term...

Payton has made it very clear that he wants a pass rusher. We all know why.

I am reluctant to pay big money for a pass rusher that another team is willing to let go.

After looking at the available pass rushers in free agency Melvin Ingram is the one that makes the most sense to me.

His injury history worries me , however he has put together two back to back good seasons

Adding a another rusher in the draft would also make sense and the player that appeals most to me is Solomon Thomas DE. IMHO he would be a perfect bookend to Cam Jordan. We might have to move up to get him. Garrett would be too costly to go up for.

Payton said it was a MUST to add a pass rusher and knowing the way our team works that means we're gonna address it in free agency. Keep in mind, Melvin Ingram had his best season the year our new LB coach Mike Nolan was coaching in San Diego.

My question is, does this spell the end of Ellerbe's tenure with the Saints should Ingram be added?

Question 1 on Ingram is will he be tagged, with a 14 million dollar price?
and 2, what are the Saints willing to pay?
Every freaking team is looking at him. He'll def get 12, and probably bid it up more

Yep.

Remember just last year Olivier Vernon (Giants) got a 5 year $85 million deal so I'm certain Ingram can surely expect something similar. It seems as though a lot of people still haven't gotten used to the rapidly rising cap. Ingram is the best pass rusher available and he is gonna get PAID.

Careful here ...

It's easier to fix right guard in free agency than edge rusher/defensive end in free agency this year...

Payton likes misdirection, so I suspect the real priority is guard or maybe defensive back...

There are only two that I like in this years group in the elite category - Kevin Zeitler and Andrew Norwell...

Snead is an ERFA, meaning he cannot go on his own. Still, a long term deal would be good.
JPP is going to get a sh**load from someone...maybe us? 14 mill at age 28 = not good numbers

Very true, but if I'm going to fix this D and I mean actually "fix" this D, I spend on a monster like Williams, not Fairley, not Ingram, not JPP, but a monster to anchor that line for years. Then we could draft an OLB and DE, they are fairly deep this draft. Zeiter would look good on the O I must say. It's kind of slim in the O-line draft but there are some good FA availible.

Very true... and we can't be afraid to spend big just because of the Byrd signing not working out. Look at what the Giants did last offseason and the huge improvement they made defensively. Gotta go for it.

I'd rather spend our draft picks for a younger, faster, stronger defense and spend our cap money on our quarterback and offensive line...

It's alot easier this year to fix the o-line in free agency than the defense anyways...

And many here are forgetting that Tyeler Davison played most of the season injured with a torn pectoral...

We've got two really good UDRFAs plus a draft to get a quality rotational player to play the NT with Davison...

We need a DE to bookend with Cam Jordan who has both the length and strength to set the edge and allow Rankins and Ony to get after it on the inside...

And he's easily performed for those numbers in this year's market...

Here's the thing - We've got a logjam now at interior DL with Rankins, Davison, Ony and you're going to commit those kind of numbers to a rotational DL when you've got a glaring need at DE to go opposite Cam Jordan?

Versatile & has play making ability. Micah did a lot of good things last year on a decimated GB defense. We must acquire these type players via FA and/or draft in order to compete in 2017.
