Johnathan Hankins looks shaky Ceuz and Jenner just released.

I too question Hoyer. but I don't follow him so I'll trust your evaluation but that seems early on a wish list. In my opinion Snead needs to be in the top five but if we get a deal done I'm gonna' be happy. AJ Bouye has been a favorite of mine but the more I read about him the more I hear that he is wildly inconsistent, even though he played well this year. I absolutely want Zeitler but he may price himself out of our range. Not even a mention of Leary? I do not know if he plays LG or RG. Currently we are in the market for a RG while Peat plays at LG. |

AJ is part of a solid CB corp so I am not so hyped about him. i am interested but i am in the texans camp about him,

Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
Payton has made it very clear that he wants a pass rusher. We all know why.
I am reluctant to pay big money for a pass rusher that another team is willing to let go. After looking at the available pass rushers in free agency Melvin Ingram is the one that makes the most sense to me. His injury history worries me , however he has put together two back to back good seasons Adding a another rusher in the draft would also make sense and the player that appeals most to me is Solomon Thomas DE. IMHO he would be a perfect bookend to Cam Jordan. We might have to move up to get him. Garrett would be too costly to go up for. I |
Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
Payton said it was a MUST to add a pass rusher and knowing the way our team works that means we're gonna address it in free agency. Keep in mind, Melvin Ingram had his best season the year our new LB coach Mike Nolan was coaching in San Diego.

Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
Question 1 on Ingram is will he be tagged, with a 14 million dollar price?
and 2, what are the Saints willing to pay? Every freaking team is looking at him. He'll def get 12, and probably bid it up more |

Remember just last year Olivier Vernon (Giants) got a 5 year $85 million deal so I'm certain Ingram can surely expect something similar. It seems as though a lot of people still haven't gotten used to the rapidly rising cap. Ingram is the best pass rusher available and he is gonna get PAID. Careful here ... |
Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
It's easier to fix right guard in free agency than edge rusher/defensive end in free agency this year...
Payton likes misdirection, so I suspect the real priority is guard or maybe defensive back... There are only two that I like in this years group in the elite category - Kevin Zeitler and Andrew Norwell... |
Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
I am looking for run stopping up the middle were we got our azz hand to us all season long
Big bucks we all know Fairley, Nick vs Johnathan Hankins or I want to point out a cheaper option that might be good up and comer to keep an eye on. Updated [again] my favorite targets for the Saints' Top Ten Free Agent Targets:
1. RG Kevin Zeitler, 27 (The Big Fish) 2. LG Andrew Norwell, 25 (RFA) 3. DE Calais Campbell, 30 4. DE Jason Pierre-Paul, 28 (Red Flag) 5. CB Trumaine Johnson, 27 6. QB Brian Hoyer, 31 7. QB Nick Foles, 28 8. CB Sterling Moore, 26 9. WR Willie Snead, 24 (RFA) 10. FB John Kuhn, 34 (signed) :bng: Note(s): It's looking more and more like JPP may be in play for the Saints; I'd prefer Campbell, but he's 30, but could put us over the hump... Dropped Fairley as I don't see a spot for him at the contract he earned this past season; some guys are 1`year contract guys... Disclaimer: Again, don't expect to sign all from the list, but three or four of the top 6 would be great... Signing three of the top five and our key returning FAs would have me ... |

Brandon Williams, Zietler, Nick Fairley, Melvin Ingram, JPP (even with a three finger discount ;)) etc are all potentially looking at big pay days in the open market for 2017. It is what it is.

Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
I'd rather spend our draft picks for a younger, faster, stronger defense and spend our cap money on our quarterback and offensive line...
It's alot easier this year to fix the o-line in free agency than the defense anyways... And many here are forgetting that Tyeler Davison played most of the season injured with a torn pectoral... We've got two really good UDRFAs plus a draft to get a quality rotational player to play the NT with Davison... We need a DE to bookend with Cam Jordan who has both the length and strength to set the edge and allow Rankins and Ony to get after it on the inside... |
Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
Quote:
And he's easily performed for those numbers in this year's market... Here's the thing - We've got a logjam now at interior DL with Rankins, Davison, Ony and you're going to commit those kind of numbers to a rotational DL when you've got a glaring need at DE to go opposite Cam Jordan? |
Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
Obviously it could just be speculation, but you're kidding yourself if you think Payton won't try to get a new toy for the offense. Patterson would be good for the return man/satellite RB role. |
Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
Patterson would certainly solve our kick returner problem.

Patterson? hmmm former first-round pick that is pretty much a bust. For a "reasonable price" of 4 to 6 million? pass
Instead give me one of these guys instead, all should go in the same price range Rick Wagner RT Ravens A.J. Klein MLB Carolina Micah Hyde FS/SS Green Bay Lawrence Guy, DE/DT, Ravens Justin Hunter WR Buffalo Bills Rex Burkhead RB Bengals |
Re: 2017 Free Agency thread anyone?
Offense will always come first. Last year's biggest need: defense, defense, defense. Our big FA signing: TE. Payton loves his toys.
