Everyone has been talking about the Saints being more of a run team to prolong the life of Brees. We trade cooks for a rd 1 this year and mutiple next. Dreaft LF7 at 11 and defense with the other rd1 and 2.

But is Payton going to actually run the ball more?

If he wants to keep Brees he will. No way Brees can continue this pace more than 2 more years. Drew attempted 676 passes last year. Ryan was right at #2 with 534. That's a big difference

Why? look at Brees' sack and times hit last year. Way down. Plus he took every snap. Our really "bad" o-line was 5th in sacks against in '16 and 8th in '15

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

Ive said before about Ingram
I kike him but he is a bit of a jack of all trades RB. He can do everything but nothing to an exceptional level. He doesnt have the speed of the top backs or the power of the biggest. Ive often thought we could do with a monster back there for short yardage. A Blount,Jacobs type. Once the get their feet moving they are getting 2 to 3 yards wether you like it or not

unless all this Cooks trade stuff is to get pick 5.

The move makes no sense. LF running style would require the saints to redo their thinking on the OL. We are not a power run scheme team. The OL is built for zone blocking. I do not think LF would do well running behind a zone scheme. Brooks? sure

All this after taking the one WR that had the skill set to get teams out of playing 8 in the box?

Sounds like the saints would be painting themselves into a corner on the offensive side of the ball while keeping the defense in the dumpster.

It makes no sense to me unless FA money goes into the right side of the line and we get some speed at WR to take the top off a defense.

I agree. I don't see why so many people think Leonard Fournette is a good choice this year. I agree he's a polarizing and exciting player, but the needs on defense are more important. And you're right, the offensive line is built for zone running. It doesn't make sense to draft him. Mark Ingram has played plenty well enough to utilize as our regular back. If we drafted Fournette, then Mark Ingram would need to be traded. There's no point to making him a third down back or something. And no point in drafting Fournette to be a short yardage back.

IMO, the focus needs to be on the defensive line, LBs and secondary. Maybe even the offensive line. We have huge holes and question marks all over those.

RB is not a need right now.

I'm not going to piss and moan if they draft Fournette, but they better have big plans to do something about the gaping holes on defense if they go that route. We already know that a really good offense and a ****ty defense won't get you more then 7-9.

Praying LF stays out of our Division. We are going to get a good player at 11. If we can get two picks in the first even better. If Panthers miss on LF and we get two picks in the first that is the most ideal situation to me. Have to fix this weak defense. If we can go from 27th to say 18th in that department we are going to make the playoffs.
