Saints Pick Christian McCaffrey RB at #11
Christian McCaffrey 5'11" 202 4.48 40 - RB - Stanford
Great question: Which player do you think NFC South coaches would fear the most for the Saints to draft at #11? I think everyone would agree that the Saints need to draft a real difference maker at #11. A player that will actually change every game. Do any of you think that Sean Payton cares if it is offense or defense? Think back to how great our offenses was with Reggie Bush, Darren Sproles or Pierre Thomas (Superbowl). This guy is a excellent WR who is strong and fast enough to be a great RB. It isn't hard to see him as a great addition to our offense. This could be exactly what Sean Payton is thinking he is missing. On the Saints offense, we line up RBs at WR. Imagine 3rd down with McCaffrey lined up at WR and Ingram in the back field. Would the TE be open... Could you really afford to blitz Brees? Imagine what could happen with well... just about anybody. We've been #1 before and we can do it again. Draft defense or trade pic #32 and draft defense in the 2nd and 3rd... Make sense to me. In fact, I can't see Payton going any way other than this unless he is able to trade down and still get him. Do any of you really think that Payton is going to pass this guy up given his past history? Face it... Ingram isn't a speed demon or a game changer. Watch these two videos... McCaffrey runs and catches the ball incredible. In workouts at the combine, he never dropped one pass. If I was in the NFC South, I would crap myself if the Saints drafted him. PLUS HE'S WHITE. GTFOH... LOL Ok... I realize this is a reach and most of you want defense. Still, having the #1 offense scoring team in the league would certainly help our team in the NFC South. BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE AT #11...???? ![]() |

So, you want to put up 40 pts a game and still lose?

LOL... How about we include getting of the field on 3rd on defense with never get off the field on 3rd on offense. The draft is deep in DE and CBs. Nobody is saying to stop defensive picks. The Saints could be the perfect team for McCaffrey.
In any case... I'm just asking you guys to think about the options he would bring in protecting Brees by creating more problems for defenses. Fournette isn't an option Danno... In fact, McCaffrey is a reach at #11. |

I think I'd rather have OJ Howard at #11; IF we're drafting offense...

Great pick but again... we need an immediate difference maker and would he be that in 2017?
Consider, would it be extremely hard to get to Brees on 2nd or 3rd down with both Ingram and McCaffrey on the field considering the rest of the WR and TEs we currently have? What do you do? This is how we got the #1 offense in years past. Could you actually afford to blitz Brees without paying for it? Imagine how much we missed Sproles the past two years. Hey... it doesn't matter what I think... ask Payton what he thinks.... ![]() |

I wouldn't mind McCaffrey if we go offense with that pick.

Re: Saints Pick Christian McCaffrey RB at #11
SP loves his toys. Reggie Bush was custom made for him so much that when Bush left he went out and got Darren Sproles to replace him so SP could use the same great playbook.
Reggie Bush and Darren Sproles were the icing on the cake that made the offense hum and strike fear into defenses. When they lost Sproles SP had a brain storm and went all out for a new toy in Brandin Cooks. That was a great year for WR and trading up for just a WR really made no sense unless the versions of toys were dancing in SP head. Cook as a WR was a solid addition taking the roof of the top and keeping defenses honest but a failure in that most beloved role of SP Toy. Christian McCaffrey is the Reggie Bush and Darren Sproles toy that SP so loves. Is he the type of player that will make the entire second level of a defense shift with his every movement? Odds are very good he is. If Reggie Bush and Darren Sproles were the Icing, Pierre Thomas was the cherry. Having PT and his great all around skill set left teams needed 13 men on the field when the saints loaded up on 3rd down. Is Christian McCaffrey a Pierre Thomas clone to boot? Yes and no. He can do everything PT did except on thing. Block. At Stanford he was not really used in that role so coaching up is needed. When he did he was a willing blocker so there is something to work with. Christian McCaffrey can burn you in so many different ways. His 3 cone of 6.57 made me drool. Imagine what effect it had on SP. OJ Howard vs Christian McCaffrey? How would the saints nation react if? 11 - OJ Howard trade up to say Tenn with their second at pick 18 to grab McCaffrey. If he makes it past the few clubs ahead of them wanting a RB and go with traditional backs, then you know SP will be ponder the move. will the temptation be too much to ignore? trading pick 32 and a conditional 2nd in 2018? We would still need a 3rd down back to step up or get one for that PT roll to truly get SP all the toys. The saints would make 90% of the NFL one denominational by half just to keep up. Making the draft shopping list easier to fill in 2017 to capitalize on the moves in round 1. The moves in round one are defensive additions if one looks at them in this manner. 11 - OJ Howard 18 - Christian McCaffrey you feeling the love? |

That would be incredible. Try and blitz Brees and you pay the piper. What a team to watch. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
