Saints draft Marcus Davenport after trading up in first round
1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints addressed their biggest need on the first night of the 2018 NFL draft, selecting defensive end Marcus Davenport from Texas-San Antonio.
Unwilling to wait until the 27th pick in the first round, the Saints made a huge leap to secure 14th overall pick, originally held by the Green Bay Packers, to select Davenport, who is widely considered the second best edge rusher in this year's draft. http://image.nola.com/home/nola-medi...c9c72ad25a.jpg Although the Saints have All-Pro defensive end Cameron Jordan, the team has long desired another player who can consistently pressure the quarterback, and Thursday's trade indicates they think Davenport can be that man. The Saints made a big move to secure the 14th pick, sending Green Bay the 27th pick in the first round, the 147th overall pick in the fifth round as well as next year's first-round pick. read more on NOLA |

Someone must have been hurt in the war room because they needed a M.D. on the double!

At least it wasn't for a QB. Wasn't Lamar still on the board?

Athletically he has the talent that makes you drool. Sucks we don’t have a first rounder next season but we targeted our guy and made it happen. Welcome to the team young man.
Our time is NOW. We needed to improve our pass rush and we did just that. Let’s get it. |

Suh was gonna cost us like a billion dollars and cap trouble. I'd rather give the picks and not suffocate on the cap.

I never thought we had a chance

Overview Davenport packed on 30 pounds from his sophomore to senior season and has the frame to continue getting bigger and stronger. While he's been a stand-up rusher at UTSA, teams may see him as a 4-3 defensive end. Right now Davenport is more of a flash player than a consistent menace, but he showed flashes at the Senior Bowl of being able to take a substantial step forward with more time. |

I was so afraid the way the talking heads were sure it was Lamar Jackson. Thank goodness the team has a win now mentality!!! I hate how much we gave up but I love the pick!!! So much raw potential still.

Seems like a decent pick. But the Saints probably could have made the deal without giving up the first round pick for next year.

Come on. If they could have given up less they would have. They aren't a bunch of dumb****s that have never done this before. They knew what they wanted and they knew that the #1 next year was going to basically be an early 2nd rounder. |

I know absolutely nothing about the guy but I was pissed when we drafted Kamara and still feel like an idiot for doubting the great Payton.

Re: Saints draft Marcus Davenport after trading up in first round
Game one I bet he is 270 easy without losing any speed. Big body at 6'6".
|
Re: Saints draft Marcus Davenport after trading up in first round
I bet he could push closer to 280 without losing speed. Can't wait to see what the coaches can do with this kid. Huge potential.
