That's the $1.99M dollar discussion isn't it... Because that is all of the cap we have. There is no way out of it and a signing bonus will not get us anywhere as that is prorated over the life of the contract so an 8M bonus for a 4 year contract hits us with 2M this year.

We have almost $12M in roster bonus that can be immediately converted to signing bonus and free up around $8M in 2018 cap.

Thanks Guido, it’s been a while since I looked in detail at salary cap maneuvers.

Maybe there are actually two other gorillas in the tent?
- The Cardinals owner is on the record recently saying (fairly emphatically) he won’t trade Peterson. That could be nothing more than posturing to get a bigger offer, which would make the next item a little more of an issue.

- We have no 2019 1st, or 3rd pics... What are we willing to part with that would entice the Cardinals.

If the financials work and we are not badly mortgaging the future then we should probably pull the trigger. As much for ourselves but also to keep him away from KC or another contender.

While I absolutely would love to se Peterson playing for the Saints I do believe he would be to expensive to acquire.

The realist in me refuses to believe this trade will actually happen.

But damn if the optimist in me isn't already dreaming about the heights this team could reach with Peterson here.
